Please either fix the issue with smurf accounts. Or do away with rp. This is insane. Minus 700 rp for losing to smurf players. Get close to leveling up and bam. Hard smurfs. It's getting pretty ridiculous. I'm to the point I don't even wanna play your game anymore. If you can't do something about it. I, along with probably many others. Won't be buying the next game.
How exactly should EA determine if someone is running a smurf account vs just being a new or low-level player? What's the criteria?

Id say it'd be a start to just hardware lock the account that buys the game so they can't make a second profile to play it. Multiple accounts with the same console, (iPhone address) especially if they're **bleep**ing god teir players just wanting to grief lower skilled players.
Not really a viable solution. There's perfectly legitimate reasons to have multiple accounts play the same game on the same console. I'm not buying multiple copies of NHL XX just so me and my kids can all play the game on our own accounts.
What about putting a minimum of games played before the account becomes "registered" a bit like the placement games. But the number of games needs to be high enough to deter the griefers, same should apply for individual clubs.
Ie.: everyone is silver until the play min 60 games, only then they get their rank, no seasonal reset obviously.
I'm not sure that really addresses the issue either. People running smurf accounts want those accounts to be low-ranked. Keeping them unranked or silver for more games would just be encouraging them.
Unless what you're getting at is segregating new accounts into their own player pool for a bunch of games. The big downside there is you're punishing legitimate new players by putting them in a super-low population group which would make it really difficult to find games.

The matchmaking this year is feeding low-level teams into the meat grinder all on its own.

Exactly. I don't think 'smurf' accounts are as prevalent as OP claims either. Sure, you may run into them time to time but it's not the norm.
Yea i poorly explained my point, unranked account shoulnt be calculated in the rp reward/punishment, like playing against an ai I guess, basically you try to limit their influence in the ranking.
The system would need a revamp tho to reward your individual performance rather than just the winning team, rank disparity would be used as a multiplier.
I dont know if that would work but i'm sure there is a way to counter smurf account/club if you put your mind into it. While i dont suffer from OP issue's, this game needs to be better countering griefer.
It isn't all the time guys. As I'm 200 rp away from ranking up to the next level. Trying to get to diamond 3. 7 times. I have been 200 rp away. Get a match that seems to be lower level guys. And boom. There's an elite smurf and the loss is minus 700+ . Back to 1000 away. And multiple matches away from getting back close. And as soon as I'm within one win away. There's another. I've been playing this game alot. So I've been seeing it quite alot. At this point I've just taken a break from the game. I have to figure out a way to just ignore the ranked system so I can atleast enjoy the game again.
