Don't take this the wrong way, but we had a matchmaking system in place for years that addressed all of the current community concerns with the current system. Explicitly allowing clubs to set their own criteria allowed teams to get the games they want and have control over how long they were willing to wait for them.
Why was the decision made to take agency away from the players and switch to a system that doesn't produce games any faster because teams are backing out of matches that don't meet the criteria they want? What's the upside?

Why not any indication one way or another whether this change was intentional? And why no indication as to whether it will be fixed? And why not inform the community as to why such a fundamental change was made?
Was this change made based on the mountain of feedback we don't see on the forums and social media? We're always told when something is changed in-game that is wildly unpopular that it was based on the 'feedback' EA receives outside of public spaces. Yet, the most popular issues constantly brought up in public spaces never seems to jive with the apparent back-channel of feedback.
I'm just envisioning some kind of explanation like "we've got tons of feedback that more teams are willing to sacrifice team size being matched in favor of faster matchmaking" which would make zero sense.

This. I know EA doesn't like to discuss future changes or features. It's not a policy I agree with, but at least they're clear about it and I can understand it. But we're not asking about a future change or a fix, just an explanation as to why an existing change has been made. If they can't discuss features that are already in the game with the community, what can they discuss with us?
Imagine if we all booted up NHL 15 and found that all WOC skaters were forced to be left-handed shots. People inquire as to what's going on only to be ignored for over a week and when they finally do get feedback it's "We're aware of the feedback" and nothing else. It's an absurd scenario, but it's not fundamentally different than the matchmaking situation.

If this is their rationale it makes no sense. Clubs were free to relax their matchmaking restrictions if they wanted to.
I'm truly baffled. This has to be one of the dumbest changes to the game yet. I thought for sure this was because EA failed cert and had no choice but remove it...
