CPU defensemen can’t keep up against the rush in 3s

I'm going to hop in on the first sentence in your comment, Kid.

How can you in any world think this should be a 2 on 0? There is a defenseman back. Should this defenseman not play defense? Should this defenseman stay where they are? I get you like to comment and come to EA's defense (Hero), but this is completely ludicrous. 

I play with any goalie if I don't have one. If hes good send a club invite.. if not, find another. Remember though, if he doesn't think you're good enough he is likely gonna join a different club. Goalies are gonna be in high demand in WoC if things stay like this.

The Problem in the first place is to find good D-Men and Goalies. For example: Sometimes, when you see the Level of the Goalie, it makes you quit the lobby immediately. 

I just don't think you should be playing with a cpu in the first place. People used them as a crutch for years and cherry picked. The cpu would defend a play then sauce it up the ice. Those days are gone. People need to start looking for human goalies and human defensemen. 

The problem is EA doesn't implement AI hustling at all. They backskate but they don't turn around at all. Backskating already slows you down as a human playing. I turn auto backskate off. The AI doesn't clue in to turn around until the human player is already passed them. It's not even a matter of making mistakes as the AI is always in bad situation that is designed that way. If your opponent has wheels on, they're gone because the AI is just too slow backchecking. 

I agree with Showtime for the fact both forwards shouldnt have been that deep but I agree with you that a search should continue if you want it to. I prob won't buy this game until it goes on sale for the simple reason that they still haven't brought back the match room size. If I was playing drop in I just wouldn't have played that game with a cpu dman. It sucks that it can take 30-40 minutes to find a good game at times and something the developers need to fix but I'd suggest joining a group or discord or something so you can always find a dman. Granted, if you end up in too many 3v1's that D man is gonna get pretty tired of it, especially if you get upset that you got scored on. If I play C I dont stay far back but I always try to make sure at LEAST 1 guy is in front of me so at worst the d man has to face a 2v1.. but if he can slow it down even a little I should be able to help. A 3 on 1 should be EXTREMELY rare. They happen, especially if someone gets hit at a bad time or a puck takes a wild bounce and you get aggressive, but it should be extremely rare. A 3 on one is an almost certain score vs a good team. 

Don't worry. There are actual 3's, 5's, and 6's players that realize the CPU has been at a disadvantage for what feels like the dawn of time. No play that you do, save for keeping one of the forwards all the way back to ALWAYS cover the D will work. The problem is that this game has been forward centric for a long while now, and they keep adding tools for players to act and move faster, but the CPU, especially the CPU D, doesn't have the tools to keep up with a 4'9, 33 pound forward rocking Wheels, Elite Edges, and Ankle Breaker. The CPU is not coded to turn around to match the attacking players speed, nor do they seem to hustle as the player skates a straight line right by them.

In these situations, you have to play the wrong way as two forwards trying to put the puck in the net with one forward needing to play D while the CPU covers absolutely no one. The shortfalls of having a competent CPU is not your fault. 

Also, the two human players should be able to cover the two remaining opposing players and the opposing puck carrier should be going down 1 on 1 with the AI .. but that isn't going to happen because he will just skate right by him.

 For starters,  The AI defence don't back skate at full speed a lot of the time and they also never turn around until long after someone has blown by them.

It's almost like they have no sense of the speed at which the opposing players are coming at them, or that they can in fact hustle back skating forward.. and then pivot to skate backwards.

KidShowtime1867​ Did you even look at the screenshots? You clearly watched the video… the ai defenseman is not back skating the entire play. The screenshot I just posted the ai has already turned around and is skating forward. I don’t know why you’re trying to say he’s skating backwards. He’s clearly not. You’re being entirely disingenuous with your argument.

I’ve played hockey for a decade. There’s literally no reason that this should have been a 2-0 against the goalie. It’s absolutely wild to argue otherwise. Nobody expects the game to be perfect. What I expect is that trying to generate offense wont lead to an easy goal for the other team because the ai is a literal pylon on defense. 

We generated two high danger cross ice one-timers off great passing plays and cycling only to get scored on off the rush. This is how every game of 3s goes with an ai defenseman. A team with quadruple the ToA and 3x as many shots will end up losing off 5 rush goals where the defensemen might as well be off to lunch. The mode is beyond busted with an ai defenseman.

Im not ignoring the fact that 2 players got caught behind there 3. If that is the reason why the defensive ai logic completely breaks down than it needs to be fixed. The ai is sitting back. It’s not contributing to the offensive play. You should be able to play aggressively with the caveat that it may lead to a 2-1 or 3-1 the other way. But that’s a hell of a lot different than a 2-0 which is basically a guaranteed goal against with 0 effort.
