Custom Rosters in BAP?

I was under the assumption that whatever roster you have loaded BEFORE starting a be a pro this year, would work instead of the default.

I created a bunch of players (some of my friends) to use in the league, and then started up a be a pro and it reverted back to the default roster. Marner is still on the Leafs etc and my created players are nowhere to be found.

Is this not the case anymore? Was I mislead? I swear I seen someone post a screenshot of an EA NHL employed person saying you could use a custom roster in Be A Pro. Fake?
