Fix the Goalies
Why do the AI goalies suck so bad year after year? I shouldn't have to turn sliders all the way up and make my goalie super human just to be able to make a **bleep** save.

Yeah that's a attitude right there too just passive right down to their community managers got to love it sorry that's the biggest problem with this company right here
I literally just gave you a entire detailed explanation of the issue if if the developers of this game are not capable of taking that and understanding that then I don't know why they're working for this company I'm sorry but that's just how it is do what you will with that
EA_Aljo my big question is now do you even play the games because after that response tells me that you don't even play this game so you're probably the wrong community manager to even be monitoring this form?
I do agree goalies need a bump, but the player base also would need to learn to play better defense. Year after year the best user goalies in the game sit around .800, maybe .815. That's a whole 9-10% lower than irl goalies. And I think if the consumer is looking for that simulation feel that we expect from an NHL game , that's ultimately where EA should look to balance the game. However, I have noticed that the community finds defense to be boring, in that aspect, its a little too much simulation because its a very "let the play come to you", "dont over commit", "youll get burned on a single mistake" kind of situation and ultimately the community and just the general public are not good with patience and are looking for more instant gratification. I think there has to be a balance of simulation to the game as well as a tune when a game isn't played as expected. There are no incentives to play good defense in this game so until that can be rectified, a bump to the goaltenders who are "forced" to play the position in a more simulation way is needed to make the game feel more balanced. Much less leaky goals if youre in a solid to perfect position, we know goals go in in the nhl but for this game, they shouldnt yet. The rest of the game just hasnt caught up with "leaky" goals. I think if you got rid of the leaky goals for now and left the rest it would be a step in the right direction. I wouldnt try to make goalies into gods because then youll have a reverse issue where people find goalies too OP, but if you make small increases, i think youd find people would enjoy the grind of having better, closer games that arent decided because the goalie just happen to bobble a puck off their chest and it goes in.
I agree with you who has been in the top 100 best defensive previous years not every year but most years I can safely say well there taking more and more tools from the US **bleep** and it's making it nearly impossible to play defense because right now it really bad and it's been getting worse for years for the **bleep**
Youre not wrong, there is a huge emphasis on stick position and facing the puck when it comes to interceptions and poke checking and right now that isnt the easiest thing to accomplish, but this is a team game and the 3 players on the defensive side of the ice need to work together a little bit better and the 3 forwards need to support them. I only play defense every now and then but the things I see a lot that hurt defensemen are not allowing the play to come to them, they go for hits when its not needed, they dont use the defensive skill stick to guide the attack to the outside, instead theyll go for a hit as a guy skates into the slot but miss completely when a sweep of the defensive stick wouldve been all thats needed. I'm not saying in any way that defense doesnt need a buff, but they also need to find some patience as well. This kind of thing has been happening year after year even when things were better. Just as an example, there are plenty of other things needed on the defensive side as well.
I absolutely play. It's possible my club doesn't give teams too many chances for "glitch" goals. Usually, people mean someone scored a goal with a high percentage of scoring that they didn't defend. This is why we need video. So we can see exactly what goals you're having issues with.
Maybe you misunderstood what I was saying cuz that's what I'm getting from the feedback you're giving back to me here so let me try rephrasing it to you and make this a little bit easier.
When I say glitch goals I use that term loosely because it's not necessarily a glitch in the goal that's being scored it's a glitch in the goalie system that's being a problem I'm not sure how much you've played with your club that you say you play with but the problem is and I'm not sure if you've noticed this but I definitely have and clearly other people have too and it's really hard to get a video of because of I would literally have to make a walking tutorial on how to see it happen and I'm not doing that I'm not getting paid enough for this my friend sorry. So basically what it is is the goalies have a tendency of lurching forward for everything they tend to dive around essentially think of Dominic haschak but with less effectiveness so the goalies need to be turned back a little bit on their aggressiveness and made to play more steadily positional hockey essentially is what I'm saying now I mean whether you take that and make something out of it is your choice I don't know but if the goalies can be made to play a little bit more stable and less diving around and more like you know actual goalies hey that'd be great but we'll see how that goes.
1.So in short less diving around like Dominic haschak and more stable positionally would be lovely that's what I'm asking for
2. When they're on breakaways have the goalie back skate more realistically to match the players speed when he's coming down on the breakaway and have the goalie play it more realistically and not go down into the sprawled position every single time why can't you just stay up in the butterfly and slide to the post like they do in real life on a breakaway there's no need for them to go spread eagle every time
That's all I'm asking for
Thanks for clarifying. The feedback is appreciated.
I am in full agreement with this thread. 100%! The goalies are supposed to be a last line of defense, but any player who knows how to deek and knows where the goalies' weak spot is and exploits it is going to score. EVERY. TIME. It's gotten ridiculous in 26, to the point that it isn't even fun to play any longer. The guys I normally played with - they've stopped coming around, for this exact reason.
In my opinion, as a game developer of a sports game myself, this is one of the biggest issues in the game, and it absolutely needs to be fixed ASAP, before EA loses even more of its community because of it. There is a definite need of balancing and improving upon the goalies' AI save systems. Lock on to the posts when players deek to either side on breakaways! Get taht short side closed down instead of doing some sprawling move on the goalie's belly and letting him get beaten!
AI goalies will always be able to be exploited, user goalies will always have a higher ceiling but a lot of goalies don't truly understand the game. It has been a true grind even to feel as confident about understanding the game as I do and I am still only barely holding onto a .800 sv%. The advantage that AI goalies do have is that they will always respond more immediate more consistently because its built into their programming. When you add user reaction time, ability to read the play and ping, its one downfall of user goalies. That's why dekeing is typically better against AI goalies and 1Ts are better against users, not that you cant beat anyone in any way, it just seems consistent in those options.
It’s inexplicably awful. Why are the goalies in chel worse? NHL 25 didn’t let in nearly as much. It’s to the point where a one on one is almost guaranteed. It’s ruining the game
