Pressure System

This pressure system is stupid.

You can literally gon offside and not lose your pressure.

Then to make it worse you super smart people added an ability that makes the pressure system even stronger!

WOC is going the wrong direction.

Garbage that never should've been added to the game.

Pressure is reset when the puck leaves the zone for a few seconds. If it leaves the zone and an offside happens right away, it's possible it'll still be active, but should expire if the puck remains out of the zone with the active pressure. If it crosses over the blue line quickly, pressure could remain until the clock runs out.

  • I know exactly what OP is complaining about.  If my club has the other team under full pressure and they clear the zone, we'll intentionally take the offside rather than wait for everyone to clear the zone.  It keeps the pressure alive and a faceoff win has us back in the zone with full pressure again.  It feels close to an exploit in the system.  The offensive team shouldn't keep their pressure on a stoppage they created.  IMO any stoppage that would normally allow for a line change ( like offsides ) should kill the current pressure if it's active.

  • Can you define "a few seconds", please? I've seen the puck go from one end of the ice to the other and back again while maintaining full pressure.

Been saying since it's inception that defensive plays should also act to counter it. The amount of stamina drain is too much for even thr simplest of plays

By a few seconds I mean 3 - 4 seconds. You can easily shoot the puck from one end of the ice to the other in under a second so it's not unreasonable pressure will remain with the puck at the other end if it gets there fast enough.

This was brought up in another thread, but I think it makes more sense to just reset the pressure meter at every faceoff (except for icing).  In the real NHL, even if the puck doesn't leave the zone, the defending team can get the pressure off by having the goalie cover it.

I certainly wouldn't mind seeing this happen since it means more faceoffs. Most teams are too impatient to cover the puck. I at least would like to see the pressure meter lessened for a faceoff if it's not completely removed. Regardless, while pressure against you is frustrating, my team doesn't have that difficult of a time dealing with it. You need to play more defensively and conserve your energy. It's not often we actually get scored on while it's active due to adjusting how we play when pressure is against us.

I hadn't thought of the faceoff angle but you are right.  It creates more consequences (or strategy) for when to cover.  Our team is generally pretty good at not calling for it unless there is absolutely no chance an attacker could get it.  But its a good way to punish the antsy players who will call for it even when there are no defenders and three attackers at the goal mouth.

Yeah. I would say that 90% plus of my games are against teams with multiple opposing players calling for the puck immediately. And in many cases, they pay the price for it. The teams that are more challenging to play are the ones that know when to cover and force a faceoff.
