Adaptive AI

So will coaches pull the goalie with more than 20 seconds left now? And better yet will the defending team actually protect the puck rather than letting the attacking team shoot it uncontested into a gaping net? This has been an issue since...PS2/Xbox I believe.

I'm sorry but for this Gen systems, adaptive AI should govern the gameplay. The whole game should be dynamic. We're already 7 games in and that still hasn't happened. Sorry but I'm not holding my breath for 27...or the NEXT gen systems.

Dude the NHL franchise should be as hyped as GTA. Could you imagine if they poured as much work and depth as Rockstar does with GTA or RDR? With the current gen systems, the gameplay and graphics should be almost undistinguishable from an actual NHL game. Far from it. Also EA could justify raising costs; I'd pay extra for a good product. At this point all they're doing is updating rosters. They could do that with a simple patch.

    I'd like to see those situations handled better too. Smarter late-game AI, better puck management, and more realistic coaching decisions would make games feel a lot more authentic.

    Oh man. I agree 100%. The coach wouldn’t pull the tender at all for a couple of years so at least that’s better. But it’s maddening watching your “d” just back in without the slightest challenge to the opposing puck carrier when your net is empty. Who else has sat there and screamed at your cpu teammates to attack?

    The AI gets way too passive with an empty net. Instead of pressuring the puck carrier, they just keep backing up and give them all the time in the world.

    I kind of wish the 2 minutes were actually 2 minutes in real time when they pull the goalie or at least give us the option to make it 2 minutes real time.

    One of the more frustrating aspects of the cpu teammates/AI.

  • They could make it so easy for themselves:

    Random random = new Random();

    // Call this when the game time remaining hits 2 minutes (120 seconds)
    public int GetRandomizedSeconds()
    {
        // Generates a random number between 30 and 120
        return random.Next(30, 121);
    }

    Too much sense...but watch if they don't AI will be able to for much cheaper...not trying to be mean but in these days, to be competitive you've gotta think outside of the box. Unfortunately EA hasn't HAD to think outside of the box in 25 years. Since the inception of things like the skill stick or broken stick/losing helmet animations.

    Isn't it weird how we've got access to AI that can comb the Internet and respond with detailed responses in seconds... Everything from giving info to writing music and generating elaborate pics, but they can't figure a way to harness and use this AI to make AI players communicate and make reasonable decisions on the ice? I remember last year thinking the edge stats would be so cool because it would recognize tendencies...nope, just another marketing ploy
