WOC Season One Informal Survey

As we approach the end of season one in WOC I thought it might be interesting to do a quick survey to get a feel for how the player base has adjusted to the changes in the mode in NHL 27.  This is completely unscientific, but I'm genuinely curious.

What mode do you primarily play?:

  1. League
  2. 6v6 Club
  3. 3v3 Club
  4. 6v6 Drop-in
  5. 3v3 Drop-in

Have you completed the battle pass?  If yes, did you do so solely by earning XP or did you buy levels?

Have you bought a build from the store in NHL 27?

What kind of build did you use in previous NHL games?

  1. Pre-build
  2. Custom build.
  3. Didn't play WOC in previous years.

What kind of build do you  primarily play in NHL 27?

  1. Pre-build.
  2. Custom build.

Do you prefer NHL 27s approach of doling out build attribute and X-Factor points via the battle pass or the "full-build" approach of previous years?

For players who felt there was "nothing to play for" in previous years, where the changes to the builds and the battle pass successful in providing an incentive to play?

For players who primarily played private matches in previous years, did the changes to the builds and the battle pass successfully encourage you to play significantly more public matches?

Hey there. I'll start things off.

What mode do you primarily play?:

    • 6v6 Club

    • Yes. Solely by earning XP.

Have you bought a build from the store in NHL 27?

    • No

What kind of build did you use in previous NHL games?

    • Custom build

What kind of build do you  primarily play in NHL 27?

    • Custom build

    • Full-build approach

For players who felt there was "nothing to play for" in previous years, where the changes to the builds and the battle pass successful in providing an incentive to play?

    • This doesn't really apply to me. I don't need to constantly be earning something to be motivated to play. My incentive is just playing the game. Mostly with friends, but also for fun in drop-ins when I'm solo. However, I did grind out the season pass faster than I normally would so as not to miss out on progression.

For players who primarily played private matches in previous years, did the changes to the builds and the battle pass successfully encourage you to play significantly more public matches?

    • NA. Haven't played a private match in a few years. If I still played them, I'd play more public matches now due to progression being tied to XP. At least until finishing the season pass.
  • I play 3v3 and 6v6 Club. I will never buy a build for a video game that I won`t be able to use seasons after, bad investment. I use custom builds because that`s what playing WOC is all about... I think the X-factors ruined the gameplay and fun of WOC. I have been playing this game since the early 2000s.

I do not care about XP, RP whatever, I play NHL because I`m a hockey nerd. EA rank does not matter to me at all.

The Gameplay is a lot of fun this year, it feels like real hockey and not an arcade style NHL Hitz. However, the custom-builds make WOC feel repetitive and stale. I get the Studio needs to make money, but when you play club and all 5 players are using the Lemieux builds WOC losses its uniqueness.

    Yes.  XP

Have you bought a build from the store in NHL 27?

    No

What kind of build did you use in previous NHL games?

    Pre-build and Custom build

What kind of build do you  primarily play in NHL 27?

    Custom build.

Do you prefer NHL 27s approach of doling out build attribute and X-Factor points via the battle pass or the "full-build" approach of previous years?

I prefer the full build.  WoC 3v3 is the only mode we play, and it was very jarring to go from a leveled up player in NHL 26 to a player that was slow, not agile, and not as good of a passer in NHL 27.

When you add this together with the hitting window changes that have uncovered a bug in the hitting that sometimes penalizes you for interference for hits that are less than 0.6 seconds after the puck has left, and consider that those hits result in a penalty shot in 3v3, we've reverted to playing NHL 26 for the time being until some of these hitting bugs are patched and our players feel good again after more of the attributes come back in future seasons of NHL 27.

For players who felt there was "nothing to play for" in previous years, where the changes to the builds and the battle pass successful in providing an incentive to play?

Not applicable.  I don't need a "reason" to play.  I just need the game I play to feel good.  This is why we've given up on NHL 27 for now and are playing NHL 26 instead.

For players who primarily played private matches in previous years, did the changes to the builds and the battle pass successfully encourage you to play significantly more public matches?

Not applicable.  We didn't play private matches.
