I think, simply put, the way the developers implemented this mechanic was just poorly done. If it was done properly, I think a lot of NHL22 players would like this mechanic.
First off, coaching feedback should be adjusted to what position your BAP player is in. You can't ask a winger to win faceoffs when they don't get the chance to take them. This is just plain lazy from a AAA developer. If I'm forced to play the wing give feedback like "block the passing lanes" or "cover for the defence." The excuse that it's "by design" only holds up if it was "designed" and not just crudely put together by taking square pegs and trying to ram them through round holes.
Secondly, you can't have a series of games where you move up in the line up in your position and just change it one year with no in game explanation. It leaves your fanbase thinking it's a bug. Simply put it in the overview when BAP characters get drafted, or make it part of one the many conversations BAP characters have with the coaches.
These are simple things developers can do to make the game better, but it will only get better once the development team critically thinks about the game they are making.
