Hey @maxiewoxy,
This is very strange. I haven't heard of an issue like this from anyone else and I haven't experienced it myself either. Can you play around in practice mode and try it out? I'm wondering if it's how you're taking the slap shot or one timer. Assuming you're using the default control style, the right stick needs to be pressed almost perfectly straight up (12:00 on an analog clock). If you're off center, it might turn into a wrist shot.
Very frustrated! So far:
- different controller, same issue
- uninstalled/reinstalled the game, same issue
What is left to try?

Can you review your Controller Settings and verify your Controls are set to Skill Stick? I'm wondering if this setting got changed by accident.

Glad, but not glad, I found this post. I am experiencing the same issue too. Thought it may be my controller, got a new one from GameStop, and still doing the same thing, just as the OP described: it works for a couple of minutes at beginning of the game, but then goes away. You pull back to do a slap shot, and it like 'freezes' and doesn't allow the follow through. It almost 'locks up the player'. The only way I can shoot now is with a wrist shot.
I've also noticed that controller vibrations are stronger since this issue started to happen with slapshots. I've restarted my XBox One and am fully updated on software.
This is happening in franchise mode and signed in btw, if that matters. Haven't tried in other modes yet or as a guest, but will soon. I'll also try and take a video and try to upload it so you can see it in action.

Switching to another profile on my Xbox was my solution. For whatever reason, the slap shot only existed on my main profile.
I only play online head to head games and that is where my issue was/is.
