Connection issues

I've been getting constantly disconnected from hut rivals games when I play vs a friend who doesn't live far away. It does the classic lag, speed up in fast forward motion and eventually you can play...

Sorry I didn't specify, it also happens when I play hut rivals online, not just with my friend. My NAT type says Type 2.

Thanks for the details. Do you play on a wired or wireless connection? Also, check your router for a firmware update and while you're in those settings, make sure UPnP is enabled.

Thanks for the replies. I have a wired connection and I received a new router/modem a few days ago from my service provider. I thought it would help.

  Is it one of those modem/router combo units? They have a reputation of not being good for gaming, unfortunately. Do you have UPnP enabled? Also, does your router support QoS (Quality of Service)? If so, it should be enabled.

    Yes it is one of those combo's, but I got it a few days ago. I had the same issues with my previous router and modem that were seperate. UPnP is now enabled. I'll test it out

@EA_Aljo What NAT type should we have for optimal performance? What is NAT type?

I played online versus tonight and the lag was horrible. It was stuttering the entire game. Lag has been an issue from day one for me when playing online.

I'm wired (console [CAT 6] and controller). My NAT type is Type 1 whereas my friend is Type 2 --- and he's playing wireless.
