Drafting a Franchise Potential Player

Hey guys, I’m not sure if I am explaining this correctly but I’ll give it a shot.

In the draft I am trying to find a franchise potential player in the middle or later in the first round. I have seen multiple videos of people drafting a “hidden" franchise potential player with non top picks. How is this possible? Shouldn’t a franchise player be the top pick in the draft. A few of the videos I’ve seen has Elite High/Medium potentials going within the top 5-10 picks. How can those guys draft a franchise potential player with a mid 80s OVR at 18 overall in the draft.

I know I can edit a player prior to the franchise and make them lower potential with high OVRs so I can grab them in the later rounds of the draft. Is that what they are doing?

I'm so confused yet jelly at the same time.

  • @Sparky_NY1 in the videos, is fog of war on? i've seen a handful of "franchise med/low" over the seasons but usually, its because they aren't fully scouted, and aren't actually that potential but maybe elite instead.

    also, you can turn the draft class quality and prospect quality both up to high, resulting in this happening more frequently.

    if fog of war isn't on, then it could be still that they have both settings turned up to high and its just random luck.

    or, they have created quite a few players and inserted them into the drafts.

    usually created players tend to have much higher overalls/develop much better.

    it's usually up to chance, mixed with the settings

    @arrowheader22 Fog of war is not on. Maybe the guys are just getting lucky with the draft class. I've played 5 seasons and have maybe seen one franchise potential during the draft. I see a lot of Elite High but not many Franchise.
  • @Sparky_NY1 could just be random good luck on their end, random bad luck on your end then probably. other than having the draft class quality/prospect quality settings turned up to high, not sure what else can be done to create more franchise players
  • In my experience if you create a franchise player or edit an existing player's potential they will always move up in the draft accordingly as well. In all my drafts I cannot recall ever seeing a non-goalie franchise player taken beyond the top 3, so it must be luck on their part. I have come across players that my scouts think are franchise, but don't turn out to be when full potential is revealed. Of course, with fog of war off this wouldn't happen.

  • I’m in my fourth season and having a great year with points. I broke the record for goals and points in a season. My rating it already at 94 but my potential is Med Elite. Shouldn't I be a Franchise potential by now? Does that come at a certain point based on age?

    Any info would be appreciated.

    Hi there, @Sparky_NY1.

    Potential isn't really used in BAP since you control your growth through your play.

  • @EA_Aljo Ok, but shouldn’t it increase/decrease based on play and stats? I know in Franchise when a player reaches a certain point in OVR they go up. Like a Top 6 Medium could turn into a Elite Medium when the player develops.

    @Sparky_NY1

    Your potential is just based on the overall of your player. If it goes up higher, it should change. However, potentially, in BAP, is purely visual and doesn't have an impact on your player.

  • @EA_Aljo Right, I understand what you're saying. Potential has no impact on if my player's OVR goes up. When I play well I increase my own attributes which changes my OVR.

    What I am talking about is that does the potential labeling change at all (Elite Medium —> Elite High —> Franchise Medium —> Franchise High). My player is 21 years old, currently a 94 OVR and an Elite Medium potential.

    All I am asking is shouldn't my player be labeled as a Franchise Medium/High based off my OVR?

    Hope this explains everything.

    @Sparky_NY1

    You'll just have to keep playing to see if this label changes. Unfortunately, I don't have any other details for you. Sorry for that ☹️
