Yea confirmed, after a few seasons in young elite potential computer generated players have extreme negative natural growth at times. This is ridiculous. They only somewhat fixed the trade value. I still see unrealistic high and low values appear for players but it's not enough to really bother me; like I got 1.1m Logan Stanley 24 Top 4 Med potential for free (I gave them a 6th rounder and they called me a gift horse or whatever) then his value jumped within a week to almost half. There's no Jay Beagles at full Connor Mcdavid value and vise versa anymore.
Screw it, not buying these games release day, I'm not buying these games at all anymore, they got my 80 bucks CAD and that's the last of it. My friends usually buy the new one on Xbox anyways and we play versus time to time so I'll just do that. Even though I like hockey a lot more than basketball, I'll probably jump on the NBA 2K bandwagon. The difference in the quality of the 2 games is HUGE, especially when it comes to their Franchise mode. The amount of customization available to team's trade, free agency strategies, actual game strategy, player attributes, player personality, peak range of potential, player growth, decline, training effects, fatigue, you name it they have everything and more... oh yea and you can edit a player's height, weight & age (not in franchise), roster sharing too. I don't even know how to go about it so I mostly leave it at default but I wouldn't if it were an NHL game.
EA NHL will never do what 2K does, they will continue to do what they do year after year. By buying EAs game I'm just supporting their product and I don't want to see it continue so I'm not buying them anymore. I'll start supporting 2K as the potential competition instead. If EA NHL sales drop enough that can invite competition and that's what I want to see. To me I see it as low risk (because their product sucks and it's getting stale for me, especially with the direction they've taken) high reward (because of what it could potentially be, the equivalent of 2K). When EA NHLs product sales drop they'll either change for the better (not) or invite competition (please do).
peace
@LordDecland Unfortunately EA and NHL signed a multi year contract with each other so I don't think they will be breaking ties any time soon. I really don't know why the NHL decided to renew the deal frankly. As you say 2k offers SO MUCH more than EA. The amount of depth, detail and customization really tempts me into becoming a basketball fan. And isn't that the point? To have a game so good and so in depth that people who don't follow or even really like the topic buy it and try it out and enjoy it? I highly doubt that's the case with EA's NHL, especially this year. And honestly, I don't blame anyone for not getting sucked into EA's broken promises that this year is the year, I applaud them. Sadly, I am one of those idiots who believes them time and time again.
Anyways thanks for checking it out to see if it's still broken. Still baffles me that they didn't fix this with yesterdays patch. Maybe someday (probably not anytime soon if ever) they will get their act together and produce an NHL game that is actually good.
I'd imagine part of the contract the NHL signed with EA has a no compete clause, meaning they can't cooperate with another producer like 2k which is sad. I'd love to see two versions of this game, one EA and one 2k. That way both really have to try and put effort in and perhaps listen to their player base every once in a while. *sigh* …only if

The deal between EA and the NHL is non exclusive. 2K could get a license and make an NHL game if they wanted to.

Once again simply bumping this topic to the top. Like I said previously I expect this issue to be resolved with the next monthly update. If it doesn't.... well.... just goes to show how bad this game and its developers really are.
- SkylerJames135 years agoNot applicable@yarg232 Yeah, EA just hasn’t done anything except put the majority of their resources towards HUT and their loot box gambling mechanics. The offline modes are always just given scraps, and end up becoming broken game modes that were given only half an effort.
It’s so sad that after two months, I still cannot play franchise mode, or BAP. - yarg2325 years agoNot applicable@SkylerJames13 and yesterday's patch update was fixing some jerseys and a stick!
- SkylerJames135 years agoNot applicable@yarg232 Yup, I just went to check out the patch notes. 1.2GB update for jerseys, and a stick? What a complete joke this game is
- SkylerJames135 years agoNot applicable@yarg232 I almost got excited cus at the file size, I thought maybe they added some fixes to FM or BAP. I should’ve known better though. They don’t work on FM or BAP fixes very often since it’s not a priority cus as long as HUT is playable, it doesn’t matter if FM/BAP is unplayable

Indeed... since this is such a major issue though if it is to be fixed it'll be in the monthly update and not in a 'hotfix' like yesterday's patch. Really hoping these developers see this thread and realize that they have left a critical error in their game for a while now. I've been playing nhl 20 for a bit now (playing a fm that I started prior to 21's release) and I have to say it's kinda refreshing having no bugs or glitches that make it unplayable. Honestly, if they just went back and C/P'd last years FM into this years I'd be a happy camper. I can absolutely live w/o the trade deadline gimmick and their new trade values. Anyways, if any of y'all really want to play FM but don't want it to be plagued like this years, I recommend going back and playing 20 if you don't mind the fact that a lot of the players are on different teams. Like I said it's quite refreshing, and it kills time before they fix this issue.
- SkylerJames135 years agoNot applicable@TwoHeadedTOM NHL 20 is miles ahead of 21, which is pathetic.
The EA mods supposedly relay these threads and bugs to the devs, but it’s all about priorities. Since the people in charge of the decisions don’t care about offline players as we don’t bring any extra revenue, they fix what makes them money, HUT and the gambling loot boxes.
We’re low on the list of priority fixes. And even if they do fix some of the bugs, the game mode is still trash since all they did was add in the deadline gimmick, and take out the ability to edit players.
They added multiple positions, which is still useless since we can’t edit positions or player types.
The draft class gimmick is pointless since prospects aren’t growing properly.
Record book doesn’t affect the gameplay, so don’t care about that.
And the supposed GM AI draft pick logic, and trade value revamp is obviously broken so can’t consider them added features, they’re just broken pieces shoved into this monstrosity of a game - SkylerJames135 years agoNot applicable@TwoHeadedTOM Kind of lost my point as I got frustrated with the pile of garbage this game is haha, just rambled a bit there.
But yes NHL 20, as shallow as it is, it’s better than 21. Even nhl 20 BAP is better than 21 - Beauts905 years agoSeasoned Ace
I stopped playing NHL 20 because you can't assign this years draft class to their proper teams due to their age. I then realized that a good chunk of them get traded at the deadline in 21 anyways so having them on their proper teams doesn't really matter. On top of that, EA still hasn't updated these players overall or potential to reflect where they were selected in the draft.
I have been defending EA quite a bit when it comes to updating the players from the 2020 draft so far this year. However, it's been 2 months since the draft and at least 6 months since we had a real good idea of what these players are and where they would be selected. That should be plenty of time to to have these players be more accurate.
- LordDecland5 years agoSeasoned Adventurer@yarg232 They deleted my comment about 2K and suspended my account lol ... been playing NBA 2K20 for a bit now and it is great. I think since having a taste of that I'm not going to be able to switch back to NHL 21 even if they fix bugs, too much of a downgrade even though I love hockey.

Heads up we might be able to get a refund with the new consumers rights act (placed in 2019): https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2015-10-01-new-consumer-rights-act-puts-gamers-in-the-driving-seat
If a game is faulty, you're entitled to a full refund.
When I first tried to refund the game months ago I don't think the Playstation store adhered to these customer rights. I was ineligible to refund because I had already begun playing the game and so there was no option to refund through their customer service department; but their should have been.
Also read through some and saw this: If a digital good is considered faulty, the Act gives consumers the right to repair or replacement, and the retailer must do this "within a reasonable time".
THIS HAS NOT BEEN THE CASE.
Repairs in relation to video games may be updates and patches issued by the developer. So what would a "reasonable time" mean in this case?
If the attempt at a repair or replacement is unsuccessful or impossible, the consumer can then claim a refund or a price reduction if they wish to keep the product.
A refund in this case must be given within 14 days beginning with the day on which the trader agrees the consumer is entitled to a refund, according to the Act.
Your rights under the Consumer Rights Act are against the retailer - the company that sold you the product - not the manufacturer, and so you must take any claim to the retailer. So, if you bought a game from PlayStation Network that turned out to be faulty, your refund request would go through Sony. (xbox store: microsoft)
If a dispute occurs, you'll be able to complain to certified Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) providers, which is a cheaper option than going through the courts.
This game is not what was advertised; along with the product, the service has been inadequate and we have rights that entitle us to a full refund of the game.
You'd have to make the claim though and that's where the 14 day clock starts ticking. (Now I just need to find out where to make the claim; should this be posted as a thread)

@LordDeclandnot smart releasing a game in the state that it was, I wish I saw this sooner

@Beauts90 Yeah that is quite annoying how they don't update player overalls. Especially someone like Tim Stutzle who I believe is a 72 overall even though lots of people believe he will be playing on Ottawa's second line this upcoming season. If I recall correctly, I think they start updating those overalls once the season starts. I'm a huge dallas stars fan and was really excited to have Heiskanen on the team in NHL 19 but he too was only a 72 overall until he started playing in the show (then he was upgraded to an 80 overall). There is the obvious loop around in that you can update/change overalls and other things in edit player before you start your franchise, but that can be quite time consuming especially considering that there are so many players with inaccurate overalls. I really don't see them updating the upcoming rookies at all until the season stars though. If you do decide to edit the players, I would probably inflate them a bit due to this player potential bug, as they likely aren't going to grow much.

@LordDecland That is interesting.... I don't quite understand why we have to get our refund from Microsoft/Sony instead of EA though, that seems kinda dumb since EA made and update this heap of trash. But a law is a law I guess. Frankly though, I don't really want a refund. I really just want this issue to be fixed so I can play again. Lemme know if any of y'all decide to go through with this refund and lmk how it works out for ya.
- yarg2325 years agoNot applicable@LordDecland My sons play NBA 2K20 and from what I've seen, it looks great. I'm not into any other sport but hockey so I'm stuck with this pile of heaping garbage unless 2K wants to join the party.
- LordDecland5 years agoSeasoned Adventurer@TwoHeadedTOM So many overalls and potentials are wrong, it's just ignored or not even acknowledged; there's no time spent on it, prospects will have the same weight and height for years and are locked. They have shown consistency throughout the years.
- LordDecland5 years agoSeasoned Adventurer
@TwoHeadedTOMIt's what I'm going to do; it essentially goes through the retailer, who then notifies the manufacturer. The thing is though if you get a refund you could still technically buy the game on boxing day and save money. If enough people apply for refund that's a problem for EA and they will hopefully notice it (part of their revenue becomes unearned revenue which is an expense that must be paid to the retailer who then has an account receivable with EA); I'm guessing they do since their sole focus seems to be on profiting off their product/service. It's also a bad look for them, if 2K notices it they might get ideas.
- TwoHeadedTOM5 years agoNot applicable
@LordDecland Hmmm, well if u have success in getting a refund then I might think about doing it too. B/c you're absolutely right, I bought the game for 60 bucks but I saw the game going for something like 30 bucks now and that wasn't even on Black Friday or Cyber Monday. Plz update us on how it goes, may the force be with you friend.

So as I mentioned before I decided to start a FM to see if anything has changed or improved. The first two or three seasons the problem was relatively minor. There was still significant decline in players that should have only improved, but at first that was only with a couple players. However, by the fourth season, there was DRASTIC decline in almost every player where there really shouldn't have been. If you look at the progress reports, you can clearly see the issue, and I know people have mentioned this before, perhaps in this very thread. In the progress reports every player has the exact same negative growth as they do positive growth. Roope Hintz (I'm playing as the Dallas Stars) was an 86 overall prior to the season starting, then dropped back down to an 83 once I simulated to the regular season. I really don't know how this hasn't been fixed yet, but it makes me incredibly frustrated and caused me to just turn the game off.
You'd figure after near 80 replies pleading with EA for change, you'd get something, anything back from them. If this isn't fixed in the next update I am really going to flip.
- SkylerJames135 years agoNot applicable@TwoHeadedTOM I’ve been busy and every time I’ve booted up nhl 21, I just get bitter about how bad it is and turn it off. Maybe I’ll try tonight and run some tests too.
I’m as flabbergasted as you are, such a huge issue to not even be mentioned or fixed after two months on the market. - LordDecland5 years agoSeasoned Adventurer@TwoHeadedTOM on that refund update... only applies to the UK ☹️
- LordDecland5 years agoSeasoned Adventurer@SkylerJames13 "scraps" is the perfect terminology. Their operations budget has clearly shifted to online modes like HUT. With EA NHL, they don't care about making a good game, they just want a cheap & easy profit.
