Community ManagerHey, everyone.
If you're on PS5 or PS4 please review these steps below to see if we can help clear up the crashing/freezing. It's not a great experience and we're here to help with what we can to minimize this and let the team know what we're observing from the community. We'll report our findings up to the NHL team if these steps aren't putting a stop to it.
I relayed these steps below from another similar thread for Xbox users, but it applies for PlayStation consoles too.
For those experiencing crashes, here are some tips we recommend:
- If you have anything plugged into the console's USB drives try removing all those devices. I've seen some controller charging docks conflict with games in the past that lead to performance issues. I tried plugging in my phone charger in the past and that lead to slow menu navigation. Best to remove all devices and power cycle your console to see if there is any effect.
- If you use an external hard drive, check to see if files are located on both drives. If so, you'll need to uninstall all the files from both drives and re-install. Make sure before you re-install, you enable all post-installation updates to go to the same drive. If you continue to experience crashes, try installing the game to the internal drive with the external drive detached.
- Plug your console directly into the wall outlet.
- Clear up room on your hard drive if it's close to being full.
- Power cycle your console with these steps below.
How to power cycle your PlayStation console
- Touch the power button on the front of the PS4/5 for at least 7 seconds (until the system beeps twice).
- Turn it back on after 5 minutes. Launch the game.

@EA_Blueberry None of that helps I even reset my console to factory settings and it still doesn’t work my game crashes in this middle of games and Microsoft won’t give me a refund
Yeah I know, right? They tell us to jump through all these hoops and install and reinstall and unplug everything yet they come out with a patch months later, if that. Meanwhile we do all the troubleshooting steps for an unplayable game and yet all our other games work flawlessly. It's a sad day when Cyberpunk works much better on the ps5 than an NHL game by EA. I wish I could return this garbage game but I doubt Sony or EA will refund me my 60 bucks for a non working game. Tired of this. Tired of paying out the nose for ganes that are broken out of the gate. What is this, January 2022 and this game is STILL not fixed??? They are waiting to fix everything for NHL 23, I guarantee you. They won't fix anything in this game. They made their millions. They don't care about us.
