Game frequently lags for 1-3 seconds

I play NHL 22 on PS5. Overall I have enjoyed my experience however there has been a recurring problem that is making it very difficult to play well.

While playing online vs other players I have experienced frequent random lag spikes or hiccups in game play. Sometimes the game glitches and plays the same sequence over and over. Other times I will have multiple 1-3 second lag spikes with no evidence on my network performance monitor. I have a very good internet connection and am not sure why I would be experiencing this issue.

Needless to say playing competitively online makes these small spikes extremely frustrating.

I’m not sure if it is connected but sometimes after a goal the camera pans out and just sits there until the celebration is over and my team name is displayed backwards by the fans in the crowd.

As I said overall the game experience has been good but I would really like help finding a solution to help make the gameplay lag free.

Thanks

That's most likely why this is happening. Wireless will be less stable no matter how close you are, but if the signal has to travel through walls and/or floors, it's going to be more susceptible to disconnects and lag. As a test, can you move to a TV that is within reach of a wire just to see if it makes a difference?

Would you be able to move close enough to the router for a wire just to test this? Being in the basement with the router upstairs is a perfect recipe for lag.

I marked this as resolved from answering the OP. You joined the thread after that.

  • My router is not in the same room I game so I can't do this on a regular but I can try to see if this is the issue however it is weird that others games my wifi is smooth but nhl for some reasons it doesn't perhaps nhl servers are not strong and need more stability than others?

Il try it but I must get a ethernet cable which il get on Friday in the meantime I tried connecting to my wifi booster which enhances every other platform but when I use this it disconects me and gives me an error code of 9D529E1FE2CCB328-0000000000021008-9B3B600B3D037892

    Does that tell you anything?

    Thanks again for your help

If you could move close enough for a wire, just as a test, that would be a good test to see if wireless is the issue. I understand it may seem like an issue with the game if others work fine, but every game is different so it's entirely possible one could lag while others don't. Distance to the servers as well as which mode you play are different for each game.

As far as the error goes, I'd like you to power cycle your equipment with the following steps: unplug your modem, router and console. After 2 minutes plug in the modem and router. Let them come back online completely. Then plug in your console and start it up. Let me know if that helps or not.

Also, which mode(s) are you playing in NHL 22?

  • I tried what you said however nothing changed,

When I connect with my wifi to my modem if I play 3v3 world of chel it lags to the point where it is unplayable, when I play from my wifi booster it seems to be playable but still lags when I play Threes but as soon as I play 3v3 it disconects me from severs..... Very frustrating cause if anything I have less devices connected now then ever before and never had issues until 21 and now 22 hopefully the ethernet cable will resolve the issue but I can only try it on Friday or Saturday if the store is still open so I can pick it up after wrk

If the online still has issues after this then I don't know... I read a few forums and a lot of people had the same issue, I will let you know if the wire resolves the issue
