I just tried HUT this morning and it is working for me without deleting and reinstalling, etc. Apparently EA has fixed this issue. Hopefully everyone is able to play now. See you all on the "ice"!

Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Not sure
What happens when the bug occurs? I go to play hut put name and abbreviation click open starter pack and get error: fails to retrieve data, please try again later. I do have the latest version and updates still won’t work I have also contacted EA multiple times and they did nothing.
What do you expect to see? A pack opening and access to my hut team

Try deleting and fully reinstalling the game and it should work. Be sure to let it fully install 100% (all 35ish gigs plus the newest update) before turning it on

I have the same problem, I try to start my HUT team and get this error code, then get sent back to the main menu. It’s very frustrating to say the least.
