NHL 12 - Custom Teams and Players Keep Deletting - Please Help!

Greetings! I know this is the NHL 14 forum but nobody goes to the NHL 12 forum anymore so I hope someone can help me. We got NHL 12 for my son for Christmas and he loves making his own teams and players. He'll make them, play them, and when he comes back later to play them again, they're gone. Are we doing something wrong about saving them? I assumed once you play the teams and players they are saved. Is this not correct? Please help!
