Been playing nhl competitively for years , I have bell fibre internet , game says 10 ms . My guy is unresponsive and delayed in all my movements . Fat man lag . I live in ontario and it feels as tho my game is connecting to a foreign server
just connected to my sisters internet which is next door through wifi . The input delay is gone but because of the proximity to the router I have a lot of choppiness now . Skipping and catching up frames , How could the input delay disappear on worse connection far worse connection. Photo attached
These servers are a joke. I have all the input delay everyone else is having. Living in southern Ontario. Fix the servers... I've done every trouble shooting step there is..running 1.5gbps bell Fibre directly to my house. Ping is 12ms but feels like 150 - 200... Running the game on Ps5.
The biggest reason why it's the ea servers is because every other game I play that's not ea has zero delay and plays perfectly. I have the same delay in fifa as well. But it's my connection and hard ware right? I've literally upgraded and changed every hardware to the best possible scenario. Nothing works.
-New ethernet cable
-New hdmi cablr
-New gaming 1ms monitor (Asus designed for the Ps5 with hdmi 2.1)
-New modem
-tried multiple dns servers
-turned off hdr
-turned off 4k went down to 1080p
-went from wireless to wired controller (turned off Bluetooth)
-ethernet 3ft away from Ps5.
It's a server issue. Stop blaming the customers. I know there's tons of variables. But there's just too many of us with the same issues. It's 2022 we should've be having this delay. It's apparently in every ea game.. That should say something. Fifa players are complaining as well. I have no issues playing versus mode (peer to peer) it's only when connecting to the servers.
I'm pretty sure it's the qc server that's having the biggest problem. Why can't I choose what server I can play on? Because clearly the one I'm on is horrendous. (pretty sure it's the qc server)
I wanted to compete in the Gwc tournament and it was so delayed that I ended up giving up, it was totally unplayable.
Since you play FIFA, can you run the Connection Quality Report and provide a screenshot of your overall score as well as the match history? NHL doesn't have that, unfortunately, but since you're lagging on both games, that could help with this. Something that really makes this difficult is that we can't just put the blame on the servers since the high majority of the community isn't experiencing this. That's most likely due to other variables, as I previously said. Finding the right combination of them isn't an easy task. We'll keep watching for more reports and as always, will continue to monitor our servers for any issues.
How about someone from ea does a test with me and switches my server to test? Then we can figure out what server is the issue? Pretty sure I'm on the qc server. Switch me to east server and let me try. I am down for some testing if ea actually wants to fix this.
@EA_Aljo Pretty close to being pre-determined then. Guaranteed the top 32 all have the advantage of being closer to a server so how does that make it fair for everyone else? Whenever I don't experience this input lag I almost always win. As soon as I get the input lag I almost always lose even if I outplay my opponent.
Winners are not pre-determined based on their connection quality. Especially since the high majority of people don't experience lag. Of course, having a weaker connection is going to hinder your chances at success. Hopefully, we'll have a server closer to you in the future.
Ive been trying to figure out why im lagged all the time. I dont seem to have input delay or not noticeable anyways.
It says for best experience to have good connection. Im hardwired at 3ms constant and at least 80 percent of my games play like garbage. I have 98 mcdavid 97 hall etc. Supposed to be fastest players in game but constantly stuck in mud while i watch defenseman with 86 skating go end to end at blazing speed.
I played a game last night and my conection was yellow with 71ms. One of the best feeling games ive played all year
So its bull that a better connection means better gameplay. Pretty much broken lag compensation. I read that if u have lets sat 10ms connection but u play someone who is connected at 80ms your getting lag out by 70ms to keep the game smooth. So we end up with players skating in mud and so on
Ive asked around for solutions for this and god forbid of ea responds or am told to get good or whatever
One guy said ea help to him to play on mobile hotspot
I live like 10 minutes from montreal have a 3ms connection hardwired. 6ms on wifi
And 80 percent of my games are garbage
My game rotation consist of
One game where Its so so or even
Quit next 3-4 cause its unplayable. Total fun watching my opponent take the puck away constantly at will no matter how much i protect the puck, poke checks never miss and are 100 pervent success the onlyoffense i can generate is basically gain the blue line and shoot while i watch them skate around at free will like my guys are cones and every poke results in tripping
Then get a game i can clearly tell i have the optimal/better connection cause my players are fast and i can do no wrong and score like 3-4 goals quick which results in my opponent quitting
And repeat over again
So much fun playing 6,7or 8 games out of ten that end up quiting in first 5 minutes
Winners are not pre-determined based on their connection quality. Especially since the high majority of people don't experience lag. Of course, having a weaker connection is going to hinder your chances at success. Hopefully, we'll have a server closer to you in the future.
Of course it is pre-determined in a way. Two players with equal skill, the guy with the better connect always wins. High majority don't experience lag? In Finland maybe, but not in Western Europe. It's good that the issue gets more attention in this forum, we had the thread with 50 pages which went nowhere except complaining but the issue still exists.
With GWC, it becomes even more evident. I don't know which genius at EA thought it would be a good idea to get rid of the option to search for 20 - 30ms games, now 40ms is max so the chance for me as a German to play on the Swedish server is even higher. And the games I had to play when the ping was between 28-32ms was just unbelievable bad. Sometimes I saw the goalie record of my opponents and I realized that I got outplayed by mediocre players and the fat man lag.
I could make 100s videos of glitches and bugs and the disadvantages one has, but the worst part for me has always been that my players don't pick up pucks with fat man lag
They always say that the meta is big defenders and I tend to disagree, my TOTY Adam Fox is great without lag because he is fast and agile despite his small size. But with fat man lag, he becomes unusable and even a liability. In this video, look how he doesn't pick up the puck, perfect assist for my opponent. I have trouble moving with Hedman as well just before the pass, it's all delayed. https://youtu.be/T0CUMh4hhak
Hedman not picking up the puck. Happens all the time with fat man lag.
I got lucky in the next video, but look how the puck "wraps" to the goaline (21 sec). And why is McDonagh moving to the left side away from the opponent at the 8 second mark? And why was this even called off? https://youtu.be/emXnUSsGPfI
And this is how the stats look like when you play with fat man lag. My opponent is Top 15 right now in the GWC and I would say that he got used to the connection advantage because he was using LT not only with the Danglers but with Burns as well and he got away with it because my players didn't move. Fat man lag, you know...
Another ping with spikes against a guy I had no chance against.
Anway, I hope EA is doing Cross-Play in NHL 23 (and getting rid of LT in the offensive zone) and I hope they are boosting their infrastructure because of it (more servers in more locations, especially Europe and Eastern Europe). If you don't, I am 100% convinced, you'll get the same threads in this forum again and even less players. And then, it might be a good moment to call it quits for me as well even though HUT is a lot of fun.
