NHL 23 won’t load.

I got the beta code.  Downloaded the game.  It boots through the opening screen.  Then goes black and I get the “HDR” in the corner, then it boots me back to the Home Screen.  
I’m on a Series X.  

  • Hey, @socopopojr 

    An issue has been found on Xbox Series X. For now, disable the ‘Allow 4K’ and ‘Allow HDR10’ settings. That should prevent the crashing until we can get this fixed. Sorry for the trouble!

  • @EA_Aljo There is nothing plugged in other than an external hard drive. I will try that power cycle after work this afternoon and report back. Thanks!

    Try unplugging that hard drive? Also, is that where your game is installed? If so, try moving it to the internal drive instead.

  • @EA_Aljo tried all of that. Still not working. I even completely deleted and re-downloaded the entire game. Still crashing at the load screen.

    Try deleting the personal saved data for NHL 23. There is the risk of losing offline saves and changes to settings you've made. Normally, those download from the cloud, but I can't guarantee this. Please follow these steps:


    • Press the Guide button and then highlight the NHL 23 tile.
    • Hit the Menu button. It's the small one to the right of the Guide button with 3 horizontal lines on it.
    • Next, go to Manage game and add-ons > Saved data. Delete the file with your gamertag on it.

    Thanks for getting back to me. As a test, try changing your connection to a mobile hotspot. Then try loading in. Let me know what happens.

  • @EA_Aljo still not working. I also tried taking the Xbox completely offline. That didn't work either. So it doesn't seem to be a network or connection issue. Could it be the game disc? That's the only other thing I can think of. None of my other games are having any issues. This one worked fine right up until this started about a week ago. 

  • @EA_Aljo scratch that. I finally fixed it I think. I deleted my saved personal data from the console then went offline so it wouldn't automatically sync it from the cloud when I opened the game. I was able to get in the game that way. So I went back online and deleted my personal saved data from the console AND the cloud. It seems to be working for now, but I lost EVERYTHING. Thank goodness I've only had the game for a little over a month. So it's not that big of a loss. Still, extremely frustrating. Thank you for all of your help!
