NHL On PC?
I've been asking this question (quite literally) every year since the game was taken away from the PC audience, so forgive me if I sound like a broken record. There are some new developments between years, even if a satisfactory response from EA officials isn't among them.
Why isn't NHL available for sale on PC?
Presumably, the answer is "It wouldn't sell". Now I'm not so stubborn as to ignore the fact that EA is a business. They make games to make money, and I understand that first and foremost. This short term profit-driven model is in part what has fueled much controversy around the company, including this recent "loot box/gambling" debacle which I won't bother getting into here. The corporation is beholden to its shareholders, and must hit its numbers every quarter. But I digress. "It wouldn't sell" is the de facto response from EA. I say it's the de facto response because there hasn't been any official word other than "we will release it when it's financially viable to do so". That quote is 10 years old.
Now this begs a few questions, chief among them- When was the last time this topic was seriously examined by the accountants that run EA?
Is it every year? Every other? Five years ago? Seven? I've referred to the opacity of EA's social media team(s) before as being cold and indifferent, refusing to answer this question. I often too cite that just two years ago, and after winning "Worst Company in America" two years in a row, EA recognized the PR nightmare they were living, and claimed boldly that they were "On a journey to regain the trust of the PC gamer".

And what exactly came from that? Well, more of the same, as it turns out. Which is to say, more cold shoulder treatment.
Another question that arises from "it wouldn't sell" is- How are they gauging interest?
I personally don't receive surveys (other than the one this forum gives, which I complete religiously). In fact, not only do I not receive surveys despite a valid email address and active Origin account, I'm actually blocked from using the surveys given to current NHL players. How can I be blocked from using a survey, you may ask. The URL is unique to each player, meaning you need to have purchased the game to get a link emailed to you. If there was ever a case of more selective feedback, I'd like to hear it. Why not just poll people who purchased the game within the last 30 days? And only on PS4? And only Gamestop customers? Naturally, surveys themselves don't have any real weight to them if no one's looking at them, or processing the data properly. A lot has to go right in order to get an accurate and meaningful survey, but if you narrow your selection of those surveyed to your current fan base, you're basically just asking for a round of applause. Petitions are not allowed in this forum, but I can assure you, reader, that there have been multiple across the past decade that indicate the audience is strong in numbers. The sad part is, the longer the delay between titles, the larger the untapped market is getting. Not only have there been fundamental shifts in demographics (Steam didn't have more active players than Xbox Live 10 years ago, for example), but players who could be playing this game weren't even born the last time it was available for their platform of choice. So what is being done to survey the potential markets for hockey fans and PC gamers? I ask the question again. The hotspots for hockey happen to match those where PC gaming is also wildly popular (Western Europe, Eastern Europe, North America). One more point to how well EA is "gauging interest" or sales metrics is evident within their own PC distribution platform, Origin. The last game made for PC is NHL09. By many accounts, it was a crummy port, and essentially a roster update from NHL08, but that aside, EA has removed it from Origin. That's right, the 10 year old game, the last whiff of NHL action for PC players in a decade, isn't for sale anymore.
Rather than turn this already long post into a bloody three paragraph essay, I'll engage in some point/counterpoints in shorthand form-
Piracy? Yeah, there's piracy on consoles too. Make users log in to Origin first, problem solved.
Porting is expensive, innit? Not when it's designed on PC architecture in the first place and distributed digitally. The game was ported across FOUR consoles recently, and EA obviously made money because they released it again the next year.
What about competition? There's nothing like the NHL games on PC now.
With Madden19 getting a PC port this year, where's the love for the NHL series?
Again, I state with complete sincerity and zero malice- If you are unable or unwilling to answer these questions, please point me in the direction of someone who can.
