This issue should have been fixed in the previous Tuner update but if it hasn't then go to you saved game data. Delete the saved game data for NHL 14 and start a new BAP. Just to answer the people that said they immediately get dropped to there AHL club: it only happens to accept a billboard offer then you start the Pre-season with you respective pro clubs. Hope this helps.
I was having the same trouble. I think it is because when you try and play the last preseason game, you have been demoted and the calender doesn't update. So if the minor/jr team doesn't have a game the same day, it will freeze. This just worked in my game, I simmed seasons till I was 19 at the begining of the preseason. I simmed the preseason games, and made the team. If you can't figure out how to tell how old you are, go to the season expecation page, it will tell you your dude's age in the upper left. I know the NHL has the rule you can turn 19 as late as Dec 31st and still play, but not in NHL14, you must be 19 when the season starts.
