The patch keeps trying to download but I keep getting an error code and the update download just stops? I have the disc version, but I shouldn't need the disc in the console just for it to update? I have the game installed on an external drive and had no issues with any previous roster and/or game play updates? Are you guys aware of this? Will there be a patch for the update to fix?? Anyone else having issue? Thanks

I'm not seeing other reports of this so it's not an issue we're aware of that is affecting everyone. Which method are you using to download the update? If you're just loading into the game and getting the automatic download, but it's causing this problem, try manually updating the game instead. If that doesn't work, try rebuilding the database with these steps. Also, try restoring the licenses with these instructions. Let me know what happens. Thanks!
Thank you for the response. Its just been trying to automatically download the patch to the game which is on my external hard drive. I didn't have the game booted or in the disc drive, maybe it'll help if it tries while the game is loaded? I will try the steps you provided when I get home if having it running doesn't work. I just don't understand why it did all other updates fine on the PS5, just this 1.40 has been an issue... I'll update a little later, thanks again...

I was having this same issue. I tried installing it with out the disk loaded, I went to downloads and it was a constant loop failing to install. I press the Ps button on the controller to see the error and it gives the pop up "something went wrong " coded ce-100002-3. if this error occurs, the application update may not have been installed successfully. Please update the system software to the latest version and try again.
I ended up rebooting with the nhl 21 disk in and initially had the same issue.. UNTIL I deleted the download file and let it redownload, from there it installed and updated properly.

So, at the same time the NHL 21 update was trying to download I was also trying to copy Spiderman from disc and it was one of those faulty disc's that only loads to 79%. Once I got a new disc, the NHL 21 update downloaded fine. No clue if I did anything specific, but thanks everyone for your help!
