Re: Online disadvantage from Saskatchewan

Another way to describe this is to equate it to playing three’s in hut rush on superstar. While with learned skill, you can overcome at times to score and win more often, but the AI is all over you, all the time and gets all the bounces. That’s what it feels like when you’re playing an opponent who is closer to the server we must be on. Again, not saying there aren’t highly skilled players that you can and will lose to. I’m fine with that. But the ones closest to servers just have the advantage, plain and simple.

I’ve chatted with many opponents after games when this is happening, and they are almost always on west or east coast. Many times if they are in same or even lower divs, it still feels like they are in div 1 or 2. Even AB/MB players I’ve played it can feel this way often.

Definitely has to be a server/proximity issue that I would think could be overcome if EA could put a server out there closer to us.

Bad from Saskatchewan here again tonight in Rivals.

I want to play this game and do enjoy it when server connection is fair, but that is rare this year. This is getting frustrating, feel like quitting the franchise.

Still bad this weekend again. Team is playing in mud. Can’t generate anything.

Why grind to get better players when player stats, strategies mean nothing at all?

I had my share of sluggish games last year too but this year is absolutely horrendous. Always a step behind.

Game after game like this now! Absolutely brutal!

    Hi there, @Br4ymatter

As you suspect, most likely this has to do with your distance from the closest dedicated server. What is the ping you're seeing in-game from the pause/stoppage screen?

  • Typically it is always around 40 on average, but it varies at times. Seen it get up to 44/45 or low as 34/35. Rarely ever in 30s though.

Regardless what it shows, the game play can most times, feel a step behind (even when at 40) and then other times it’s shows 40 and it’s perfectly fine. Rarely fair though this year it would seem.

Ironically, I recently played around with max ping setting and even set it to 80 and to my amazement, gameplay was super fast. Still felt like opponent had advantage but my team seemed faster too at least.

Having a 45 average isn't bad. As far as feeling a step behind goes, does your TV have a game mode you can enable? Also, if you're on PS5 or Xbox Series X/S, make sure you're using the HDMI cable that came with your system and not an older one.

  • Yeah, I’ve had great games at 40/45, but more often than not I’ve had awful games even at same speeds this year. I don’t have any trust in those numbers or if they are accurate, something else on sever side is going on. Nothing to do with lag from tv. Server proximity or something else, but has to be server side.

fyi played a kid other day who was only playing his 3rd game online ever, so div 10 I guess? With a win, I get into div 5. I managed to win but in OT and it was one of these games where I couldn’t do anything but I managed to squeak it out. Not sure what’s going on there, but super frustrating.
