Why can’t I play online co-op with someone on the same console on nhl 18?

I am trying to play online co-op with someone on the same console as me because that is an option that is given, however I can’t start a game when I try to. Why is this and how do I fix it?

Second player must play as - Guest or use another PSN accaunt on your console. Press PS button on second gamepad (you friend) and choose profile psn
