Origin - EA Desktop Content Transfer

Hey there everyone,

I have recently gotten into the Sims 4, and play via EA Play provided by my Xbox Gamepass. One thing I have noticed is that DLC Expansion packs can be very expensive when purchasing directly through the desktop launcher (full price for year+ old DLC) - and Origin has the option to redeem digital CDKeys which would save me a ton of money by purchasing via verified 3rd-parties. I know I cannot access my EA Play through Origin like I can the EA Desktop due to the difference in subscriptions, but I was wondering if I were able to transfer a purchased/downloaded piece of content from Origin to EA Desktop with my subscription technically not being active on Origin.

If I purchase a digital version of a DLC and upload the CDKey into Origin, will I be able to access it in my EA Desktop application even though I *technically* am not an EA Play subscriber through Origin? Just to be clear - I do NOT own the Sims 4 on Origin, I would just be attempting to purchase/transfer DLC via Origin to EA Desktop.

All help/suggestions are welcome, thank you.

@zackywitz755 Yep! Approved 3rd party codes that mention being an 'Origin CDKey' are compatible with the EA App.

    Heya @zackywitz755,

Great question! For any DLCs you purchase, game ownership is shared across both Origin and EA app. But you don't need to switch between apps as you can also redeem codes on EA app, and anything you redeem via a code on the EA app will be on your Origin Library as well. However, you can only access EA Play through Xbox Game Pass on EA app. If you want to play through Origin, you'd need to have the base game on Origin.

Please note that if your subscription expires, you'd need to get The Sims 4 base game in order to keep playing and access your DLCs

  • Hey @EA_Cade ,

Thank you very much for the response!

Just to clarify one more thing related to the EA Desktop codes; are the approved 3rd party codes that mention being an 'Origin CDKey' compatible to be submitted through EA Desktop? I see from your response that redeeming them in Origin would make it accessible via EA Desktop and essentially vice versa, but in order to minimize my chances of having issues with the transfers I would prefer to directly redeem them in EA Desktop.

Once again the assistance has been greatly appreciated, it absolutely made me and my girlfriend's days' when I read we could start saving a ton of money on EP's!
