Origin servers inaccessible

Apparently the Origin servers are down (5 Apr 2025 - 09:00 EDT). =/
I've been playing The Sims 4 using Origin for the past week or so with absolutely NO problems.

This morning, I was playing in offline mode, and the game crashed hard - I had to reboot my Mac.
After rebooting, I relaunched The Sims, and Origin displayed an error message:

Origin servers temporarily unavailable
Apologies for the inconvenience, we're currently unable to retrieve your list of games. Please reload and try again.

I was hoping to be able to play until the 17th when Origin shuts down for good.

It's disappointing that it's ending like this - I've been playing the Sims on my Mac since it came out in 2000, and have spent a LOT of money on DLC/Expansions over the years.

It's absolutely ridiculous that The Sims runs flawlessly on my machine, but the EA app won't run because I use High Sierra... and now it appears that Origin has shut down 2 weeks earlier than scheduled.

Oh well - 25 years was a good run.

This just happened to me! I asked a live agent for support and the only solution he would give me is the download the EA app. When I mentioned we're supposed to have until April 17, he just straight up didn't comment on it.  We can still make purchases in origin though so I'm not sure what that's about? I had actually just purchased a new expansion pack when I started getting the same error message. I didn't even get to download it but the money definitely came out of my account.

I'm currently on spring break and was planning to play so much Sims and I'm just sad this happened. I've been saving for a new gaming laptop and had it planned out perfectly to align with origin shutting down but I guess that won't work out in the way I wanted it to 😢

  • It's a shame.. I was going to spend the next couple of weeks making videos and taking screenshots documenting my 12 years of playing The Sims 4. Some of the custom Sims in my save games were created in 2013... and they were based on my original Sims 2 sims! R.I.P.

.. all because EA can't figure out how to simply authenticate my EA account on my 4 year old Mac OS in their 12 year old game.

BTW: In the Origin store the minimum specs for The Sims 4 for Mac still show older Macs as being supported:

    MINIMUM SPECS:
OS: Metal required. Mac OS® X 10.11 (El Capitan)
CPU: Intel Core i3-3225 3.3 GHz (2 cores, 4 threads) or better
RAM: At least 4 GB RAM
HARD DRIVE: At least 25 GB of free space with at least 1 GB additional space for custom content and saved games
VIDEO: Support for Metal. Intel HD 4000 (Integrated Graphics) or better
    INPUT: Keyboard and Mouse
ONLINE REQUIREMENTS: Internet connection required for product activation.

    RECOMMENDED SPECS:
    OS: Mac OS® X 10.11 or later
PROCESSOR: Intel Core i5 (4 cores), or better
VIDEO CARD: Intel HD and Iris Graphics from the HD 4000 series or newer
    MEMORY: 8 GB RAM
HARD DRIVE: 50 GB of free space, with at least 1 GB additional space for custom content and saved games

.. so that's a lie, and false advertising.

It's EA. They're liars and always have been. We should have known that EA would play dirty for us "peasants" to comply with their BS ea app.

I'm having the same problem, I was playing the Sims just fine and then an hour later my 'game library is empty' and an error says 'Origin servers temporarily unavailable'. Has EA shut this down two weeks early or is there a genuine issue? I'm on Mac Mojave and without moving to windows or totally new hardware this means it's over?  I only just bought another EP!!!
