Re: How to link my EA Origin account with Steam?

Hello there @Avesteris ,

The easiest way to link your Steam Account is by logging in on the EA Helps website and then signing in through Steam.

Here's How:

1. Navigate to the EA Help Website.

2. Click log in at the top right of the page. (If you are already signed in, sign out and then click log in)

3. When it pops up with the: enter your login credentials, click Steam at the very bottom.

4. Login with your Steam Credentials and then you are all set!

    @The_other_Rare Hi,

Thanks for solution, it seemed to work, but I still cannot play SW Squadrons via Steam, it ask me to buy it on Steam even though after receiving email that accounts are linked. Am I missing something?
  • @Avesteris

Hey, no problem at all. So just for clarification, do you own the game on Steam or on Origin? Because if you own the game on Origin you should just be able to download it through your Game Library and then launch it through there.

@The_other_RareYes I do own it on the Origin, I bought it yesterday, like 18h ago. I also checked the other games I own on the Origin, and they are also unavailable to play through Steam.

  • @Avesteris

So what is the issue you are having with Steam? Because if you don't own the Game on Steam you wouldn't be able to play it through that platform.

So what's the point of linking both accounts? I was hopping it can be detected in the steam so I can use the same features what steam gives when you own the game.
  • @Avesteris

And what features were you hoping to have access to by linking your Steam and EA Account if you don't mind me asking?

    @The_other_Rare
I wanted to play EA game via Steam (for all that perks Steam is providing, like achievements, forums, game discussion/comments etc. etc.)
I thought that when I link it with Steam, the games I own on the Origin becomes available on Steam too, shame....

So.... actually what is the point of linking that both services anyways?

Hi there! I too have a similar issue with Steam and EA Play + Origin.
I subscribed to EA Play on Steam and installed SW Squadrons a few days back to access the 10 hours game time.
Then i found a decent deal on some website for the SW Squadron key activating on Origin and bought it.
I was hoping i could link the Steam account and gain access to the full game on Steam since i own it, but after playing a little bit of the 'trial' version i see that the game is not synced between Steam and Origin, which means that i am asked to re-download the entire game once more only to be launched by Origin instead of Steam. I really don't appreciate downloading 30Gb of files when these same files are already sitting on my HD.
Is there a way that i can copy/paste the main game files from their current Steam location to the folder appointed for DLoad of the Origin version and after that verify/rehash the files through the Origin launcher in order to complete the DLing of the specific Origin executables and DRM files? That would save me much traffic and time.
    Thanks in advance.

@The_other_Rare I do not know about the other users, I personally was encountering an issue with Origin Launcher and wanted an easy fix of being able to pick up and play on Steam. To me I thought this would enable me to play my game, that I paid for, where ever I wanted just like I did when all this was on physical CDs. I was pretty pumped. Now I'm left with that question of 'Why did I bother? What is whole point?'.

The issue is, it auto logs me in, so I have no chance to sign into Steam.

    How about this-

I bought on steam and it appears to have downloaded the game.

I linked my account to EA, by signing into EA with my Steam credentials.

I now see a copy of the game in my EA client, but it wants me to download it (I've already downloaded it in steam).

I hate to download it a second time, and have two versions of the game on my PC.  Can I tell EA where my Steam install is, somehow, so it will use that install?

If you own an Origin game through Steam you need to link the accounts to play it, or to login through steam

Great. Now it wants me to create a new EA account, liked with my (existing) Steam account....

I unlinked temporary(?) to test if my refunded Origin / Steam shared game would disappear from the Origin library, but it did not. (I know about and use the "hide" filter).

How do I link my existing Origin / EA account with my existing Steam account?

Every time i try this it makes me reset my password then when i go back to login with it again it just keeps telling me my password expired even right after resetting it. Anyone have the same problem?

I managed to link it by following what @The_other_Rare says in post #2 above (first page).

I have the same email address for both Steam and Origin accounts, not sure if that's important. When I entered the email for the "new" Origin account, it found my existing one and that was it. I may have misunderstood before, I'm not sure (don't remember).

    Side-note:

But there's something funny going on with Origin's Filter settings. It shows 1 hidden game, and 1 Steam game, but none of them actually shows up even if I clear or select said filters.

I only had 2 games bought via Steam, one of which I refunded. The other one I did not refund. Both gone now :P  It works from Steam and recognize my Origin account, so no biggie I guess.

EDIT: Nope, the refunded Steam is still there. Just needed to activate both filters at once (Steam + hidden games). Not sure if it complicates matter that I re-bought it later on Origin? Btw that version is also there anyways (not hidden etc), and works. Idk. Hours played is the same on both, probably since it's the same title. It's a bit messy. Or actually it's not, or shouldn't be. But it is. But sure I'll just continue having the refunded Steam version as "hidden", not really a problem. Just odd.

  • But how can you link an existing Steam Account with an Existing EA Account i dont want to make new accounts for 1 game thats kinda *

2022 and there is still no way to link Steam to your EXISTING ACCOUNT!? is this a joke? the answer in this post is nonsense to "log in with your stream login, because it will create new EA account.

  • There is, but as far as I can tell there aren't any benefits if progress doesn't transfer.  I was thrown off by people saying to log out and then log into steam, but when I did (same email on both accounts) it automatically found the two accounts and says they're linked in my profile.  That said, when I look at EA games through steam that I own on origin/ea play, it doesn't see them as purchased.  I'm going to try logging purchasing something through steam and see if it tracks the other way around.  This is ridiculous though.
