Re: Unauthorized Refund/Pack missing

i have the same problem (was issued a refund for the Get To Work pack, which i bought at 50% off) and have been told the same thing.

i don't mind waiting to have the issue resolved, but i want to keep playing sims in the meantime!! does anyone know if it would mess with my progress if i play for a bit without the pack installed? i have a sim who's at a high level in the Detective career and i want to make sure she doesn't have to start all over, lol

@carathebigfatpig I’m in the same boat! They refunded City Living and my Sim lives in San Myshuno... I’m scared to mess with it, so I guess that means no Sims 4 for a few days. ☹️
  • Get famous was one the packs that got refunded and my sim is an actor so I’m not going to play for a bit either.

@carathebigfatpig and @xGranade  If you load a save that has been exposed to a certain pack without that pack present, it could corrupt the save, that is if it even loads in the first place.  So if you want to play while you're missing packs, it would be best to start a new save; you can go back to the old one(s) when the issue is resolved.

I have no idea why this happened, but hopefully someone will clarify soon enough.

Edit:  @Needle2792  I've merged your post into this thread, where a number of other people are reporting the same issue.

  • You will need to open a new save to play, as playing without the pack doesn't work. I tried to play and it wont let me open any houses or anything.

@Tykell30 Are you using The Sims 4 Legacy Edition? I ask because Discover University and all packs released afterwards are not supported on the Legacy Edition.

If you have the Legacy Edition, I would contact EA Help about a refund for Discover University. DLC are usually non-refundable, but in this case they might make an exception.

  • Omg yes I have the legacy addition . Is there any way I can take legacy addition off so that I can play it ? I really wanna play it so bad , Or there’s no possible way ? Or can I just get a refund , I’d really like a refund if there’s no way I can take legacy addition off or anything . Thank you so much

@Tykell30  If your Mac doesn't support Metal, you won't be able to run the standard version of Sims 4.  To double-check, please post the full specs of your Mac, including operating system, as described here:

If you can't run the standard version of Sims 4, then yes, you can request a refund for any pack that doesn't work in the LE.  You'll need to go through EA customer support, since Sism 4 packs aren't generally eligible for refunds.

Okay let’s do for when I go to college which I am , and I get a new mac that is metal or support metal & I download the Mac C thing from Apple , will it go back to being just the sims 4 ? So that way when I go to log into my origin account the discovery university should be there for me to play right ? I’m so sorry if I’m asking dumb questions I just want to make sure .

@Tykell30  These aren't dumb questions.  If you buy a new Mac, as in, any model offered from Apple as new rather than refurbished, it will support Metal.  The only ones that don't are older models, typically from 2011 or earlier; or ones running macOS Yosemite (10.10) or earlier.

Your games belong to your Origin account, not your computer.  So you'll be able to login on your new Mac and download everything you own from your game library, including Discover University, which should run just fine.  You can also transfer your existing saves from your old Mac to your new one, although it doesn't work the other way around: saves that have been played in the standard version of Sims 4 won't work in the Legacy Edition.

When you're shopping for your new computer, feel free to post in the Sims 4 Mac section asking for advice.  Some Macs run the game better than others, so you might want to know what you'll be getting for your money before you make the purchase.

@Tykell30  No, under normal circumstances, a Metal-capable Mac will run the standard version of Sims 4 even if you install the Legacy Edition.  There is a way to trick the computer into running the LE anyway, but that involves deleting part of the game files, and it's not something you'd do by accident.  Besides, a repair would fix it.

You may want to prevent Origin from installing the LE though, just to save the extra disk space.  When you initially install the game on your new computer, you'll be asked what packs you want to install as well.  Uncheck the box for the LE, and then make sure Origin doesn't start downloading it anyway after you launch the game once.  You can hit cmd-tab to switch from the game to Origin and back again.
