Assistance with SPORE

So, I just bought the Spore Complete Pack through Steam and downloaded Spore only, and when I try to launch Spore I get the message:

"Configuration Script Failed [2000]".

When I click that OK button, I get this other message:

"Could not find needed package. Data Directory is missing or corrupt [1004]".

How can I solve this issue?

  •       Please disregard the previous post.....it turns out that since I bought the complete pack, I just needed to download all the parts (Spore, Creepy & Cute, and Galactic) to get it to work. Thank you for your patience!

  • Try getting EA's "Origin Gaming" app (it's free), then go to "Redeem A Product Code" and enter your Spore security code. If that doesn't work, you might try DLing it through Steam, again with your Spore code so you don't have to pay for it twice.

If these "fixes" don't work for you, then your only recourse might be to find an external USB optical drive and reinstall from the discs.

You will need to add Spore to your Origin game library so that you can then download it from there. (this must be done on the account that you have Spore registered to)

In order to have Spore show up in your game library, you will need to contact a game advisor as Spore cannot be added by conventional methods. (https://help.ea.com/uk/contact-us/ask)

If the game advisor gets confused or doesn't know what you're asking for (they may look at your account and tell you that the game is already registered to your account, specify that this is correct, but that the game is not shown in your Origin game library), link them to https://help.ea.com/article/redeem-your-serial-code-in-origin#21 and tell them to read section 2.1.

You may need to provide your retail key(s), so keep them handy.

I fairly recently contacted a game advisor and they eventually added my copies of SPORE and SPORE C&C to my Origin library.

I've had SPORE almsot since it came out. Yeah, it's been really fun. BUT.

    1. Why is EA 'abandoning' SPORE? It's one of their best games ever to be honest.

    2. I was 8 when I made my SPORE account. IS THERE ANY WAY I CAN EMAIL EA AND ASK FOR MY STUPID USERNAME TO BE CHANGED?

    P.S. Anyone else feel like it's kind of....dying? O_O

  • To answer your question:

    1. Because EA has their money. They basically control Maxis, so they're pretty much powerless in the development of Spore. Once EA has their money, they either move on, DLC the game as much as possible, or get a new franchise out of it. Or all in combination. Spore isn't abandoned on a user scale, but on a business scale Spore has seen its moment in the spotlight. But I hope I am wrong.

    2. It is very hard but I believe it is possible by raising support. However, I think they will only change your username if they believe it is offensive, such as having swearing in it.

Well, aliasoleil isn't offensive at all. So I guess I have to keep it forever.

And I suppose that's right. At least there's still users playing.

  •  Wait, you're  aliasoleil? We already know each other, for like... 4 years now. Why would you want to remove it?

Because I made that up 6 years ago when I was a tiny child who made stupid stuff, and plus I really hate my middle name ,_,
