No it still it same
Similar problem for me. If I launch from EA app it only launch Spore base game, if I try to launch Galactic Adventures from the desktop shortcut or the executable it ask me to update the EA app.

Sounds like we had the bad luck to download the expansion just as it broke. We've tried everything everybody else has and its still not working here, either. My little boy is so disappointed.
Spore GA are not Broken, I also have it on another laptop and it was installed via Origin, and it worked that time
now i can't play it anymore on the that laptop because of the EA appTrue that brother, but how long have you tried playing it on the EA app? I'm trying to make a timeline.
