There is a generalised issue similar to this one that popped up for other games today. Teams are aware and are investigating. Hopefully that will also fix the issue you are getting.

Sounds like we had the bad luck to download the expansion just as it broke. We've tried everything everybody else has and its still not working here, either. My little boy is so disappointed.
Spore GA are not Broken, I also have it on another laptop and it was installed via Origin, and it worked that time
now i can't play it anymore on the that laptop because of the EA appTrue that brother, but how long have you tried playing it on the EA app? I'm trying to make a timeline.
I would also like to mention that it doesn't work on my computer using the EA app either, but it did work on that same computer when I used Origins in the past.
