Can't login on Spore, Steam Copy

I'm trying to connect to the spore website on my steam copy. I would like to have custom content and online features. I got it as a gift like a year or two ago from a friend. I was able to get a receipt from him as a proof of purchase. I have been using this guide so far and it recommended i go to ea support:https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2601443452.
