As long as the game is listed in the Origin My Game Library, the game is considered to be registered to the account, this is called an entitlement.
I don’t believe the Spore server specifically needs the actual key but I will check into that. As far as I can tell, it just checks for the entitlement, not a key.
I did find a workaround to register a Spore persona, but it’s a little convoluted to do. I’m not 100% sure if it will let you upload creations, since it creates the persona but does not actually grant an entitlement (and entitlements are checked when uploading creations), but all other online functionality should work. Will post more details soon.
Can you tell us the workaround?Thank you!

@TheEccentric123 there's no workarround -yet-. This issue is going on for quite some time now, and alot of people have been looking in to it. Most of the time without any success though. You should search the web for any tips & tricks resolving this issue, in case you hadn't done that yet.

There are not many answers,I tried some things and they didn't fix the problem.It's pretty frustrating....

@0rangeAedan , @Kyle_Necrowolf said he has a workaround
- 0rangeAedan4 years agoSeasoned Rookie@TheEccentric123 sort of, yeah.
- 4 years ago@TheEccentric123 Question is if he'll be willing to release how to do it

Small update on the workaround I mentioned…
We’re trying to implement it via a mod that can be installed for the game. This would be the easiest and most seamless solution, since you would just register in-game as normal. Nothing would be different, it would just load a version of the registration page that does not include the entitlement check.
This solution would still not allow uploading most creations, as I mentioned, because entitlements are checked during every creation upload.
I’m also looking into alternative solutions that may grant the entitlements, which would be an ideal solution instead of this workaround. Nevertheless either way we’ll still likely implement it via a mod.

@Kyle_NecrowolfThank you so much 🙏🙏 how long would the mod take to make?

I have some very good news!
I did some more testing and discovered that the game has a feature to upload the CD key directly from the game to the Spore server, during registration. So all we have to do is make a mod that re-enables this feature, and allows the user to manually enter the code (normally it is only retrieved if on a disc version), and that should cause the server to detect the code, and grant the entitlement directly through the Spore server instead of trying to pull it from origin.
It might even be possible to re-enable this feature without needing a mod, though that would likely require manually inserting the code into the windows registry. I will see if that works, and if so, I'll post whichever ends up being easier.
Need to do some additional testing to make sure this is in fact the case, but as far as I can tell right now, this should work perfectly, and grants the entitlement that allows creations to be uploaded (my other workaround did not). Will probably post an update tomorrow.

@Kyle_Necrowolf Excellent news! 🤞

I was about to start digging through my storage to find my old physical copy of the game, glad to hear that might not be necessary! Having to edit a product key in via the registry editor certainly isn't the worst workaround I've had to do for older games.

@TTVveedwapor @Kyle_Necrowolf Quite hilarious if the solution would be as simple as adding a key to the registry #oldskoolhacking 😃

Looks like the game doesn't check the registry on current versions of the game, but a mod that re-inserts it to the game should still be doable. Most likely we'll have a text file outside of the game where you will put your CD key, and then the mod will insert this when you try to register, so the server can verify you own the game that way.EDIT: So I have no idea where the game pulls the key from at all now... it doesn't actually get it from the registry on any version of the game. Gonna have to do some more research into this... but we'll probably get that mod ready anyways.

I swear every time I get an email about a new post here I get a little heart attack

Thanks to Rosalie (who has done a ton with the online features of spore) we now have a version ready to test… hopefully it works!
PM me here on AHQ, or join my discord https://discord.gg/66jVk3X if you are interested in testing out the mod!

So I had a friend try to login with the same error, but he apparently then used his old EA account (this is apparently different than his current origin account, different email) and it registered successfully. He's able to look at and download from the sporepedia so honestly I don't know?
- 4 years ago@TTVveedwapor Login is not affected. If you already had a Spore persona on the account, it will work fine.
If it was indeed a new registration - meaning, this account was never used for Spore at all, and was registered with the three boxes on the registration page - then I'm curious to know the Spore screen name and where the game was purchased (Origin, Steam, GOG, etc...) - 0rangeAedan4 years agoSeasoned Rookie
@Kyle_Necrowolf I've sent you a PM, happy to help!
@pitchtheripoff sorry for yet another minor heart attack 👿 - 4 years ago
I wonder how that mod is going? I dm'd Kyle on Discord about a week ago and they said that "The mod isn't working as-is, but we might've found another solution." Hm.

Too bad! I've also PMd but hadn't received a reply yet, now I know why :-(

Depending on if you're willing to barter with EA Support or shell out another 10 dollars, the Creature Creator on Origin seems to actually give the entitlements you need to register and upload to Sporepedia. The solution has worked for me and a few others, at this point it just depends how invested you are in getting this game's online functionally working.

@TTVveedwapor That's odd, nice workarround though. Does it also provide access to the online content in game?
I've already bought spore including all DLC, having legitimate keys (tried both Steam and Origin versions). EA was a little helpfull since they've ported / granted me the Origin keys, however, different employees give different tips to what to do next (which I obviously already have done). I still think Origin should fix this issue without having to purchase Creature Creator too, since the original game should include online features as advertised.
And the solution to this issue is probably as simple as using the same server in Spore as Creature Creator does. Or something similar. I'm really curious how the process of registration exactly works. @Kyle_Necrowolf can you elaborate on that? - 4 years ago@TTVveedwapor Can you even download the creature creator anymore? Is there a way to log in on there?

You can, it's 5 euros here: Origin
But I can remember it was free once, in the early days.. say, 12 years ago or so.
