Hello @zplinte
I'm sorry to say. Unfortunately your wish can't be able to fulfill.
Yes I agree that when they take down their "required" game servers, they should Release a PATCH for the Game so it can be played offline *OR* if thats not possible then Release the Server Code and/or code which will allow "complete offline play" in an Executable the user can run locally, then run the game executable, and it would interface with that locally, then allow it to run without requiring any online authentication!
Killing off the game in this way stinks, and I now actively AVOID buying any game which needs a "persistent internet connection" or must "always be online" for even single player to be playable.
Ideally as gamers, we all need to boycott companies doing this to our games to begin with, any game advertised as such, do not buy it at all, even if you like the game, this way we can tell the companies directly "we wont buy any games with abusive DRM fitted to them" and eventually they will listen, because if no sales are generated at all due to abusive DRM, it hurts them badly.
I would not mind say DRM which only wants say a monthly online check (for a few minutes on launch) to validate it is valid, thats fine, provided they dont close the server down which validates the game, But to force it always online, is a bad tactic.
