How can I gain access to my old Maxis account?

I have an old Maxis account tied to my current EA email. The side effect is I cannot seem to sign into the website or the game to access the data.

I tried to follow the instructions here: http://www.spore.com/view/screenNameManage

But the game errors out, and the website tells me it is an invalid email. 

Product support was of no help at all. They sent me here. 

So I have two screen names tied to 1 email account... and the website only recognizes my newer account... but my older account has hundreds of hours of gameplay and items in it. I cannot currently access without downloading each individually and at that point it also isn't recognizing they originally belonged to me... it treats it as another person's addition to my game. 

Anyone have advice on how to fix this?
