Mirror's Edge Catalyst crashes on start...

Whenever I launch Mirror's Edge Catalyst from Steam, it crashes just as I get to the screen with the tips on it... then the EA thing pops up briefly and disappears... it seems that you need to fix your app... at one point when I launched the game, the EA app (which is NOT installed on my Linux MINT 22.2 operating system) demanded my password... why? I should be auto logged into it... Final Fantasy 12 works on my machine... why not MEC?
