New controller issues for SMB 3/4 on steam

Suddenly having issues for SMB 3 and 4 on steam using an XBox 360 controller, was fine for ages and ages, but maybe 10 days back something changed, either gives wrong button layout with many buttons rendered useless, or all of them are useless. Removing and then loading again both games, along with steam itself, did nothing to fix it. Following instructions to go into files and change a 0 into a 1 did not fix. Changing steam controller settings did not fix it. Since there is no direct support from either steam or EA for this issue, been all over the internet seeking help with no luck, tried playing with the keyboard but I am 52 years old with a bad eye now, there is no way I am going to be able to handle playing it on a keyboard(tried it a couple times recently, it is hopeless). I have no idea how to fix it, if anyone knows how, or at least how to contact someone official who might actually want to try to help, it would be appreciated, I am beyond frustrated at this point
