I have the same problem, but I'm having a hard time following these instructions. My "config" is a folder, not a file, and contains three files; none of which contain the "cmdlineadd" at all. Also, there is no file in my mac called 'SPORE Preferences'... Any help?

Did you open the game,  so that the Spore Preferences folder can be created?

On Mac

Navigate under-> Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/SPORE Preferences/

This is the correct path on mac, if you do not see anything, may game  not be installed properly!

You must to completely uninstall it with the hidden files and reinstall it again.

Im having the exact same problem. Im on a Mac and haven't got the files mentioned above.  downloaded a digital copy from origin.

HOW TO FIX

The problem is file:

En-gb is missing “namegeneration.package”

The solution 

(you need to see hidden files)

Right click spore icon 

Click show package content

In order go to:

Content 

Resources 

transgaming (at the bottom)

c_drive

“spore”

“data”

“locale” 

go into “en-us” and copy “namegeneration.package”

Go into “en-gb” and paste missing file

Restart pc 

Happy gaming
