SimCity needs Origin

in the last week or so, SimCity:Cities of Tomorrow starts up then about 2 minutes of playing a pop-up tells me SimCity needs Origin to run. Then it closes, it also closes the EA game launcher / site . I had been playing with no problems for quite a while.
