Spore Activation key

I was unpacking boxes and found my old spore cd case. The key doesn't seem to be working either as a regular install or on steam. What can I do?

    I would suggest trying to redeem your key on Origin. If this does not work, please contact customer support.
    A game advisor should be able to assist as long as there is proof of you owning the game.

    I have spore and used my serial code and got a message saying ( sorry this code cannot be redeamed here. please redeam your code at the following site: http://help.ea.com/. FAQ ) ?? confused.. also it wont let me redeam a code for the sims 3 as it says it has been used ?
