Spore from Steam launching but not playing

So I bought Spore on Steam years ago, not realizing that I needed a Windows machine and not an Apple in order to run it. Fast forward to this year, when my Macbook died and I replaced it with a Windows 11 machine. Hooray! I can play Spore now, right? I download it from Steam, open it up, and while it launches just fine, I can only get as far as selecting a new world and launching a new game...and the screen goes black. I can still hear the audio from what is presumably the first cutscene and the first few minutes of play, but the graphics just won't go. I've tried changing the resolution settings and a bunch of other suggested fixes from the internet, but still no dice. Any suggestions?
