Spore not loading with Mac OSX 10.9.2

I have just purchased Spore for Mac at a cost of £19.99 and installed as per instructions. When I go to launch Spore it fails to open, I have installed all of the updates also (of which there were very many).

I am far from impressed with this and would like either a solution to this problem or a full refund as my son was looking forward to playing this game.
