Spore stops working due to memory allocation issue - no refund possible?!

Hello everyone,

So the issue is fairly obvious, I bought the game 8 days ago and started playing it immediately. I am using Windows 10 Home (and on another computer, Windows 11 Home). On both computers, after reaching the space era, the game crashes and stops working. According to the log file that is automatically created, there is a memory allocation/pointer issue. I tried to look for solutions but all the related forum threads (e.g. on reddit) are either dead or 8-10 years old. I tried multiple troubleshooting steps, watched YouTube videos, etc. but nothing helped.

Then I decided to buy the game on GoG, and voilà, it works like a charm - even in the space era.

I would like to ask for a refund as the problem is obviously related to the outdated version of the game that is available via the EA app. However, according to the refund policies, it is not possible which I find scam like as the issue is independent from me and there is nothing I can do.

I would highly appreciate it if you helped me with this issue. In a nutshell: the game doesn't work due to its outdated version and I would like to get a refund.
