Steam users unable to create Spore account or redeem game on Origin

Recently, EA has made a change to how some of their games are distributed on Steam, which has a major impact to Spore on Steam. I am creating this topic on behalf of other users who are experiencing...

@Kyle_NecrowolfI own the game on Origin and I can't make an account either after buying the bundle on steam. Even using the Origin version of the game isn't working when I try that with the steam version uninstalled.

Edit- I just noticed my password may actually be too long for the in-game password field.

Edit 2- after changing my password I can actually login just fine so I guess there's a character limit for your Spore password.  Leaving this post up just in case someone else ends up in a similar situation.
