"This creation cannot be saved"

I just got spore and now I am encountering a bug where the game tells me there is no mouth on my creature when there already is one and that I cant save the game until I have one. I take the mouth off and put it back on and the message saying I have no mouth is gone but I still cannot save the game. I had just grown legs when this happened. Any ideas for how I can fix this? :/
