Hey everyone,
I'm happy to confirm that we have fixed the issue and is scheduled to be added into the next patch. I don't have a date for the patch yet but as soon as I do, I'll update you.
In the meantime, please continue to keep the Shifter detached so that you're able to use the face buttons on the wheel.

Just chiming in to say I'm having the same problem. I just installed the demo today and was ready to buy the deluxe version today, but it's a complete non-starter with broken wheel support.
I may just forget about this and go back to GRID 2019. No point having such a hopelessly broken game soaking up valuable space on the Xbox.
Edit: And no, disconnecting the shifter isn't a reasonable solution. I like to use the shifter in other games and my wheel is bolted to a stand. I'm not going to go around removing / reinstalling my wheel constantly to play a game that was released with major input bugs.
