Request: Grid Legends VR motion controller support (SOLVED)
Having the option to use the motion controllers for steering in Grid Legends VR would set the standard for driving experiences with Quest 2/pro standalone experiences. It allows for the players to have a more immersive experience (including optionally controlling the virtual arms) and could start the creation of Quest 2 controller wheel stands (like Nintendo Wii wheel stands) and maybe even full steering wheel and pedal controllers for Quest standalone.
People could probably create a stand from cardboard if desired, as soon as Grid Legends VR would add motion controller support for steering.
Is this at all on the agenda?
Actually discovered just now that Grid Legends VR does have an option to use the motion controllers now. Somehow I didn't find anything about this when searching online.
Go into "Options > Controls", now when clicking on one of the listed controllers (left/right) select "Load Device Preset" and you'll see 2 options: without or with "(motion control)".
I haven't tried it a lot yet, but the first impression was not smooth. With motion controls enabled you can use the grab button(s) to take hold of the steering wheel which sort of defines your point of reference. Now moving your controllers will move the wheel.
Holding my hands out in front like on a steering wheel didn't seem to respond very well as it doesn't seem to keep track of the center. The most reliable virtual steering I was able to get in the game so far was by resting the controllers on my legs and while holding the grab buttons, tilting the controllers like a joystick.
There are more detailed options for the controllers I haven't tried yet, so maybe it's possible to calibrate it better.
Has anyone already tried placing the controllers in some wheel stand using the motion controls option?
