I've tested briefly on the hardest 3-click settings and it's pretty difficult. It's like there is some lage between when you push the button and when the meter stops, so timing is difficult. Good on you that you are able to execute shots.
The issue is not the 3-click system in my opinion. The issue is with the gameplay itself. As you have noted the problem with both the putting and RNG, neither would change with another level of 3-click difficulty.
