Ads instead of patches

I will try to stay civil here,

today I logged into steam, expecting a patch that brings us a new seasonal event and lots of the much needed fixes and social gameplay.
I was quite happy to see EA release an info on the page. Until I read it.

Instead of a patch, we get a promotion for EA play, so we get more customization ingame. So not only did the game release way to early, they now cut out the seasonal event for no event and offer us to pay for a service to receive the much asked for customization that is missing from the base game.

Who greenlit this action? This action speaks very loud that some suits in an ivory tower have their focus on milking the customers instead bringing back a much beloved franchise to its old glory.

At this point my patience is wearing thin. Even though I knew EAs history and saw how they approached the release, I was so eager to relive my tiger woods gold nostalgia, that I gave them the benifit of the doubt, especially when patch 2.0 was already a step in the right direction.

But this "update" just showed me again that we do not face a company that loves sports games and their players, but that is just driven by ROI and making some rich people richer.

Whoever thought that this was not a slap into the customer's face is so far detached from reality, that they should start playing their own game with their customers, to better understand why such an approach is just bad practise.

  • I guess I'm being more hopeful in that I believe they have taken all our feedback and have been working on a huge patch implementing what they could along with additional fixes and doing all that will take some time. It does concern me that they haven't been more communicative lately. They came out the gate strong with that, then disappeared. The latest newsletter mentions nothing of what is going on with what they are working on, so that's also concerning. Haven't been around gaming for a long time, it's rare you see a development team reach out for feedback and actually implement it, like the 3-Click meter(unless that was coming anyway). Despite I remain hopeful I'll log in and there will be a huge patch with huge patch notes. Having said that, EA all but killed Baseball and Hockey on PC and nearly golf till the Golf Club came out, so maybe the corner offices put guidelines and muzzles on the dev team. Guess time will tell. I think they have a great game here though, and hope they are allowed to keep updating and growing it.

Will say though, that on PC, I haven't seen any ads thank Gawd.

    Time will tell I suppose.

I find it crazy there has been no announcement yet, considering the new season is meant to launch in 3 days.

No trailers, no new information about courses being added, no new game type information and nothing about the bugs being addressed. Absolute shower of *.

I'd much rather the devs were focusing on actual content than pointless advertising.

A simple in-game message or countdown to when the next season would start would be good but we certainly don't need a trailer.

@BuckHasTheBook - don't you dare try to compare this rip-off of 2k's golf game to Rory. Whoever put this game together never played Rory or they'd know how to make a functional online h2h lobby and leaderboard, let alone what made it keep a loyal following for 8 years. This game looks more like they hired ex-2K coders after losing the phone numbers of the old Rory creators.

@Ultrasonic_77 Look at any other AAA title when they release a seasonal update. Even FIFA when they announce team of the year cards. Not even a screen shot of the new course? You’d much rather they were focusing on content but the bottom line is you have no idea what they are working on, if anything.

Do me a favour and take your EA tinted spectacles off for a moment.

I know other games do it but my personal view is it's a waste of limited resources as per my previous post. We know the Oak Hill course is coming, almost certainly next week from info. from the game team I've seen posted on Reddit. Advertising for something I'll be getting any honestly really does feel like a waste of time to me. I understand others may appreciate this more but it really can't be argued to be essential.

Note I did agree with you that some sort of indication of when season two would start would be good though.
