Dont think it makes too much difference. I've got the Steam version but it still starts through the EASports app. If I were you I'd save yer money at least until it goes on sale, which it will soon because next to nobody is playing it on PC.
It's a gloriously immersive game which consistently does stupid things which drive you up the wall
Though it still loads the EA App to run the game, I always prefer Steam. You can easily get a refund if you don't like it and it's likely easier to work with the game files(choose what drive to install the game on/verify files/etc). I have it on Steam and haven't seen any issues with the pass-off to EA's app. Unless EA is offering a big discount, my recommendation is to go with Steam. It's just a better app.

Multiplayer is dead, social coop is dead and EA only works on the game with a skeleton crew as they try to milk the last of the players money with the title. No multi-player? Even the old Tiger Woods games allowed some semblance of multi-player.
Any version is fine, just pay as little as possible
This game is going to get shelved like Rory did
